  • Zionism: a CBC radio documentary
     OP - November 07, 2011, 09:39 PM

Highly recommend listening to this audio documentary that's airing nowadays on the CBC/Radio-Canada network. Each of the two parts is about an hour long, and full of historical information and nuanced pro/post/anti-zionist perspectives.

    "Zionism From Within", Part 1 & 2
Since appearing on the international stage in the 19th century, Zionism has evoked strong emotions, both positive and negative. Nowhere have its meaning and aims been more hotly debated than amongst Zionists themselves. Frank Faulk speaks with Zionists about the movement's troubled history and the current struggle over its meaning.

    Listen to Part 1

    Listen to Part 2

"Blessed are they who can laugh at themselves, for they shall never cease to be amused."

The problem isn't Zionism, there's tons of mental ideologies out there calling for all sorts of madness.

The problem is, if you've got the British Empire behind any of them, that's the problem.

The modern history of the Middle-East can be summed up:

Britain: Divide, conquer, divide.....shit, WW2, meh, skint. Ciao.

the problem is when you enter someone else's home and act like there aren't any inhabitants. happened in north america, australia, new zealand, palestine, and many other places. the problem is modernist, white, male philosophy that does not recognize other cultures as civilizations.

White is badddddddd. Sorry I would say whoever has had more power has used and abused it in human history. Whether white, black or purple.

They haven't had the opportunity I'm afraid. It's human nature, the big fish eats small fish. It's not something modern, western, white or whatever racist against the white race you want to say.
Let's not forget about, for example, the conflicts in Rwanda, Sierra Leona, the regime of Mugabe in Zimbawe and the conflicts in Somalia and Sudan...all in Africa, black on black wars, oppresion and violence.
And what about the oppresion of Tibet by China?  And the "cockiness" of North Korea against South Korea?
And....what about the arabs conquering countries with the sword for centuries in the name of...islam?
    And the Persian invasions?
    And the Mongols?
    And the Assiryans?
    And the Roman Empire?
    Etc etc etc etc

It's not about the colour, it's about how powerful and resourceful humans are. White, black, yellow, all races are victims of their own races and others....So please leave the racists staments against whites. And read History!!!

Yes, what I said in my post it's the truth, it's not political correctness. That is human history and human nature. Ignore history if you want, but you can not change it.  And as it's colloquially said in Spain, whoever ignores history, is doomed to repeat it.

replace 'modernist' with 'backwards' and 'white' with muslim'...

"the problem is backwards, muslim, male philosophy..."

am I hating on all muslims? no, i'm hating on backwards, muslim, male philosophy. not even all muslim philosophy.

but apparently there's nothing wrong with using the descriptor 'muslim' with a negative connotation, but using 'white' is racist. go figure, the privileged is always an individual, not to be grouped.

     Reply #24 - November 09, 2011, 10:44 PM

No. It's about fundamental inaccuracy, not specifically about the use of the word "white". Take this:

oh right, because blacks are on an equal footing with whites when it comes to how much oppression they caused in the world.

     Roll Eyes

If you're primarily referring to the slave trade between Africa and the US, then you have to take into account that that vast majority of those slaves were captives taken and sold by other black Africans.

IOW, the problem was not just "modernist, white, male philosophy that does not recognize other cultures as civilizations". It was equally tribal, black philosophy that did not recognise members of other tribes as being human beings who deserved equal rights.

That attitude is still prevalent in parts of Africa to this day, and you cannot blame it on the legacy of white colonialism, because it existed well before white colonialism.

Devious, treacherous, murderous, neanderthal, sub-human of the West. bunny

well i wasn't attacking Mandragoras for disagreeing with me, I was attacking him for accusing me of being a racist and calling me a "little shit racist".
  • Re: Zionism: a CBC radio documentary
     Reply #28 - November 09, 2011, 10:58 PM

Mandragoras is female. Wink And I'm not talking about the insults. I'm talking about the rather odd notion that human rights abuses are caused by "modernist, white, male philosophy that does not recognize other cultures as civilizations". It's a quaint over-simplification that completely ignores all the cases of human rights abuses that have been caused by non-modern, non-white people.

The basic problem is that humans have a tendency to see other people in terms of in group or out group. Anyone in who is not a member of the in group is seen as lesser.
