    I'm getting all nostalgic about Arabic music now - this one makes me miss Egypt - "Helwa ya baladi" - a girl I loved gave me this song in Egypt in 1980 when I was 20 years old - even now it makes me cry.

    EDIT - if you watch her singing - there is a little guy behind her - I swear it is the Guy from Sparks (remember them?) the one with the Hitler tach and always stood very still playing piano.

    and her voice isn´t that great either... at least to me. sorry. that really is the best, arab music can come up with? Embarrassed (and arabic is not a very singable language, is it?)

    I used to hate her when I was a kid, Dio - I couldn't understand what anyone liked about her songs - they all sounded out of tune - in fact there was no tune - but it grew on me Grin Her songs are generally poems put to music and her voice brings out the emotions of the words - I do enjoy her music a lot and it makes me very nostalgic.

    that´s true... music (certain genres, anyway) IS an acquired taste. Lately, I discovered Qawwali! (oh, and Bollywood... but that´s almost as embarrassing as my continuing love for Abba!  Grin)
