hey, you shortened my link! Thanks, sweety! How does one do that? I didn´t know, so had to post the long thing!

    (text is fine, muchas gracias!)

    From the FAQ thread in Introductions;
    Quote
4/ How do people do those short links in their posts?

Easy. Say you have a really long, clumsy link that you wish to post.
Start by copying and pasting it into the post reply box. eg; http://reallylongandclumsylink.com.ugly
Now put a ] bracket directly after it, like this: http://reallylongandclumsylink.com.ugly]
Now type what you want to see directly after that: http://reallylongandclumsylink.com.ugly]link
Now highlight the lot with your mouse, then click on the icon with a picture of the Earth. It's just above the smileys, third from the left. This will wrap your link in [url ]   [/url] tags. All you have to do now is delete the ] after [url and put in a = sign, so the end tags are now [url =       [/url].
The whole string of gobbledegook will now show in your post as link.
It's quick and easy once you get the hang of it.

Does that make sense? If it can be clarified let me know.

What you have to do is find the vid you want and bring it up out of the side menu, then c&p the title into your search box and hit it. Once you've done that you can click on the search result for the vid you're after and it'll link you up.

ETA: The ersatz aint bad. I'm trying to find some old Joan Armatrading. She used to write fantastic songs.

that´s true... music (certain genres, anyway) IS an acquired taste. Lately, I discovered Qawwali! (oh, and Bollywood... but that´s almost as embarrassing as my continuing love for Abba!  Grin)

Embarrassment? Hell dio, Dancing Queen is the ringtone on my cell! I do use Should I Laugh or Cry sometimes too  Grin

I loved Abba the very first time I heard them and appreciate their music more every day.

I sure want to see a picture of you, just a small one. And the one with the Before and After Muslim pictures.

A fellow Michigander, Bob Seger. The video sucks, as it's a montage someone put together of a concert, but the song is great.

Try to listen to it and sit still. I dare ya.

And at the risk of enduring howls of laughter and sneering, this is the very best, top notch recording of O Holy Night I have ever heard in my life:

I never get sick of hearing this song, especially at this time of year.

Of course no Christmas is complete without the very best recording of O Come All Ye Faithful sung by the king himself.

I love that recording and know of no other one that beats it.

Now go ahead and laugh  Grin

A little taste for you guys from the East ..

Nazia Hassan an iconic Pakistani Pop singer from the late 80s and early 90s. She was British born,  changed the music scene in Pakistan and was very popular all over South Asia. I wasn't much of a fan ..but her music is nostalgic to me ..so many memories of it playing in the background from my childhood. Enjoy:-

This song makes me cry every time I hear it.

Both the singer and host were banned from their countries (Egypt and Syria):

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Nd60m0mAwo&feature=related

"A beautiful word, two beautiful words. 'How beautiful is my country!'

A beautiful song - two beautiful songs - 'how beautiful is my country!'

My hope is always that I will return to you, my country

And stay by your side forever, my country.

All the memories that have passed - do you remember my country?

My heart is full of stories - do you remember my country?

My first love was in my country, I can never forget it, oh my country!

A beautiful word, two beautiful words. 'How beautiful is my country'

A beautiful song - two beautiful songs - 'How beautiful is my country!

My hope is always that I will return to you, my country

And stay by your side forever, my country."

Sugarland -- Just Might (Make me Believe)

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sc9i-EzwY3g

I got miles of trouble spreadin' far and wide
Bills on the table gettin' higher and higher
They just keep on comin', there ain't no end in sight
    I'm just holdin' on tight

I got someone who loves me more than words can say
And I'm thankful for that each and every day
And if I count all my blessings, I get a smile on my face
Still it's hard to find faith

But if you can look in my eyes
And tell me we'll be alright
If you promise never to leave
You just might make me believe

It's just day to day tryin' to make ends meet
What I'd give for an address out on Easy Street
I need a deep margarita to help me unwind
    Leave my troubles behind

But if you can look in my eyes
And tell me we'll be alright
If you promise never to leave
You just might make me believe

I used to believe in us when times go tough
But lately I'm afraid that even love is not enough

    Ohhhhhhhh
But if you can look in my eyes
And tell me we'll be alright
If you promise never to leave
    You just might make me
    Oh you just make me
You just might make me believe

"What shall it profit an intellectual [to] acknowledge a simple truth and lose his Weltanschauung?"

I enjoyed that! I never heard of her - is she Berber? (she is singing in Egyptain colloquial, though)

    Yes, she is... Berber!
Although not too clear which part, I think she prefers "Mahgrebien"!
She grew up in Brussels, and much later developed her career.
google her up, there's plenty of info about her around.
She had a hit in england I think, produced and performed with Jean Michel Jarre [don't know if you know him, he is a sub-superstar too] called "ce' la vie", a couple of years ago.
Maybe I can find the video of it, and will post it here, its kinda rare too, I have it on my harddrive.

Nice - thanks! I think I will check her out.

Yes I know Nancy Ajram, my son saw her at the Albert Hall a while ago.

I quite like some modern Arabic singers - but being from an older generation Wink I prefer the classic arab singers such as Omm Kulthoum, Fairouz, Abdul Haleem Hafiz, Farid al-Atrash (Oud) etc... Smiley
