     OP - October 30, 2011, 02:57 PM

what better way to spend the sunday afternoon then to listen to Two philosphers debating about the existence of god.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m4lKWiV8pkE&feature=feedu

what do you guys think of the debate ?

I could have posted it in religion and god section but I wanted to attract some CEMB philosphers to the topic Tongue.

In the argument from design Craig doesn't explain the independent pattern exhibited in the laws of nature, he only gives an antidote from Contact and I'm assuming implicitly depends on the conclusion that life exists, there are cosmological constants, therefore those constants show a pattern.

So once again I'm left with the classic Irish man's dilemma, do I eat the potato or do I let it ferment so I can drink it later?

I get a chuckle from Craig every time he presents the argument from morality after reading his justification for the genocide in the Bible.  "Something things are really wrong!1"

    1. Targeting all men, women, and children because of a race, ethnicity, and/or geographical location may not be depending on a supreme being's whim.

To prove his point what  Mr.  William Lane Craig  do is, get s in to the subject where the science has yet to explore and questions are plenty and takes them as possible reason for the existence unknown entity ..god.. spaghetti monster.. whatever.

What people need to do is the way Sam Harris did to him.. Bring him back in to his religion his CHRISTIANITY and beat him up by proving such god as described in bible is rubbish and irrelevant to   the answers that we yet to discover from scientific investigation.

Peter's Millican does a good job of grounding Craig's argument in Christianity and not the just Deism. At least from his first speaking opportunity.

The quantum particles argument is pretty weak because, at least from what I know, those working on it don't claim that they are actually uncaused, but that there exists a state that creates complex interactions that we cannot quantify with any known rules so they appear to be 'uncaused'

To me the argument from morality seems to me always seem to be begging the question.  All arguments for it I have seen try and appeal to the moral anarchy of a loss of a trans-human judge of morality and then claims in order to avoid that "loss" we need a trans human judge for their to be moral values, but this actually doesn't say anything about the actual existence of one, only that if there were to be one we could avoid the messiness of moral anarchy. I could be wrong though.

Off course there will always be questions what is Moral and what is not moral., after all it is evolving along with human being since the time they came out of monkeys..

Well Theists have that trans human judge to guide their moral values along with books allegedly inspired/written with  trans human background..

anyways., Here I have to agree  Richard Dawkins w.r.t. Craig.,

Craig should spend his time with debates like this.. he will be better of debating with LOOONG Allah loving BEARDS..  Not with Atheists..

Craig's rebuttal to "there is no such thing as an unembodied mind: still falls short of supporting his original claim.  He points out that we aren't wholly material but "unembodied" minds linked to a physical body in order to create physical effects, but he doesn't illustrate how an unembodied mind unlinked from a physical structure can still effect physical things or if that is even possible.

Lol philosophers have spent 2000 years to prove god! And they utterly and miserably failed!

Dont waste anymore time on philosophy. Its a dead end!

    Gladfly stop being so arrogant.

Do you think  Philopshers only argue for the existence of god ? You just read a book by hawking and you have been quoting him madly since then. I like the book but it was criticsed within the sceintfic comunity from people like Penrose.

I prefer science over philosophy when it comes to answering questions but too philosophy has its place in the world and some great scinetists like Einstien and to a lesser extent sagan enjoyed philosohpy.

Plus the IS of science has absolutely no input over the OUGHT of morality. Philosophy lies in that direction. The decision to help someone like Stephen Hawking when his condition deteriorated too much, instead of leaving him out on a hilltop to die, was an action stemming from the philosophical thought processes which ground our society.

the fact that relgionists have to talk about philosophical arguments for god existence is evidence that there is no god as philosophy does not provide empirical evidence of anything, nor objective facts.

Nobody talks about philosophy for that which are evident. Do you go to philosophy to learn about the color of blood being burgundy red? do you go to philosophy to know the sun is a source of energy? Philosophy is basically theories without the expirements..... it's just romanticized thinking,

yeah cuz empirical evidence is obviously objective
