Hey guys, huge fan of metal here. Here are some of my favourite bands,
    - Maudlin of the well
    - Isis
    - Acid Bath
    - Eyehategod
    - Deftones
    - Death
    - Immolation
    - My Dying Bride
    - Thy Catafalque

And my favourite metal band by far has to be OPETH. Will be mightily upset if there are no Opeth lovers onboard.

Should have stayed in. Read a book instead.

    Good. Need more metal fans.

OK, so I think it would be a good idea for me to recommend a lot of underground metal/hard rock music that are for the most part mostly unheard of when it comes to Avenged Sevenfold and Metallica lovers.  Doubt many of you will listen but I'll try my hardest to entice you!

Firstly there's a New Orleans band appropriately named Eyehategod who specialise in very dirty sludgy music. Guitars are downtuned, vocalist babbles incoherently, and the bass and drums are very audible and their music creates a very erm hostile atmosphere (lol).

Some of their riffs are absolutely remarkable. Sabbath inspired riffs with their own brand of sludge metal, it's absolutely fantastic and makes you want to headbang like a sufi who's just been electrocuted. There really isn't a band on the planet that can compete with Eyehategod when it comes to the riff making. The two songs below are prime examples of their style.

the riff that kicks in at 00:47 is just orgasmic

"Pale Communion" Album by Opeth was leaked. I listened to it today while doing some work. It's quite good, though more progressive rock than metal.

I'm clearly hanging out with the wrong crowd if none of my mates listen to Eyehategod!

Anyways hopefully this next band will be an introduction to the most of you. maudlin of the Well released a double album around 2001 titled Bath/Leaving Your Body Map. They bascially play what is termed avant-garde metal, however there really isn't any other band on this planet that play music like them. They do however follow the philosophy of heavy sections and acoustic passages that bands like Opeth had already mastered by then but imo, motW pull it off much better, and the transitions between the heavy and soft sections are brilliantly done.

Also, they incorporate a lot of jazz in their music, play a wide array of instruments and also have brilliantly done female vocals. Personally, it took me a lot of listens for me to truly appreciate their music but once I did, wow was it worth it? So much can be missed out by just listening to it once, they really need to be heard a few times. Terrific band. Below are two of my favorite songs from them,

Back in April I bought tickets for Up the Hammers (festival in Athens, Greece) which will take place in March 2015, and which is already sold out right now. I feel like the luckiest girl alive.

(lineup: Manilla Road (special show with their former drummer), Omen, Atlantean Kodex, DoomSword, Battleroar, Slauter Xtroyes, etc.)
