  • CEMB Re-designed Website
     OP - August 12, 2011, 06:34 PM

The main CEMB website - not the forum site.

    http://ex-muslim.org.uk/

A more prominent link to the forum would have been nice...

MUCH better, but where is the link to the forum?

Edit: Ah okay found it. But yeah, as Prince says, it's not very prominent. Why not add it to the list of links on the right hand side at least?

Under 'community'... if you were looking for it and couldn't find it... doesn't bode well...

How about a link just above the press releases?

It looks clean on the dolphin mobile browser.

Also the Mayam owned the Charities Commission in her letter.

So once again I'm left with the classic Irish man's dilemma, do I eat the potato or do I let it ferment so I can drink it later?

Aww I like it better this way, although the faces of those ex muslims always freaked me out, cause I was always afraid of my face appearing on there. no But yeah anyhow, I like this version better, although I do not use that site, cause I don't know what to use it for. Huh?

An improvement but if I may split hairs, it would have been nice to see it more prominent than just among a load of links. Though I guess people aren't retards and should be able to see it and guess what it is... also, they spelled it wrong.

No way. It's a list of links that look like they are just a bunch of random atheist-related stuff the author of the website likes to browse and felt like advertising. Not to mention it makes the forum look like it's not even part of the organisation, it's just another outsider link.

The website does look slightly better but there's still so much more that could be done with it.

    Also...
I do not use that site, cause I don't know what to use it for. Huh?

That is a very good point...

The site does not seem to get it's purpose across very well at all.

Sorry Hassan. I did make several criticisms of the old website a few months ago and offered suggestions to help. While the new site has addressed some of those points, there's still many more things that can be done.

This forum is much more important than the CEMB website. I would argue that it's more important than the actual CEMB organisation too. People having doubts about islam want to be able to interact with others and the reality is that they look at YouTube videos and visit forums first.

I'm gonna sound like a pain in the backside but the link to the forum should be a tab on the Top left like the "home" and "manifesto" ones.... Sorry

Has merging this forum with their website been considered? Avoiding traffic getting lost on the way. Then again there's some political issues I'm not really happy about in the CEMB so keeping it separate may be a good idea.

Just saw this. Man, that site still looks so damned amateurish. Sorry to have to say that as I know people have put time and effort into it, but it's still a mess. The banners at the top don't even fit properly. One is cropped and the other is distorted.

Internet-access-computers, in all public libraries that I have checked so far, all block http://ex-muslim.org.uk/ under  the "Websebse"- category "Malicious Web Sites".

Are you really promoting a malicious website or is this "Websense" software the new, automated, jobsworth-council-worker?

Site seems fine to me. I'd say it's malicious software. I'll let Maryam know about it as really that's over the top.

I'd wager it might be the latter. Wouldn't be surprised if it was. Depressing, ain't it?

Websense is a security software company. On their site, you can run a scan of any site. Just did that, and it found no security risks at the ex-muslim.org.uk site.

It could be an issue of the libraries/ISP that you are using having blocked the Ex-Muslim site.

    From wikipedia:

Websense is a San Diego-based company specializing in Web security gateway software. It enables clients (businesses and governments) to block access to chosen categories of websites.

Ok, so some twat has gone and blacklisted the site. Presumably a Muslim or two grumbled about ex-Muslims not having the right to exist.

    Yep.

The company's website states that they do not engage in censorship, but obviously their software is being used to censor Ex-Muslim websites in the UK.

    Quote
    Websense Policy on Government-Imposed Censorship

Websense does not sell to governments or Internet Service Providers (ISPs) that are engaged in government-imposed censorship. Government-mandated censorship projects will not be engaged by Websense. If Websense does win business and later discovers that it is being used by the government, or by ISPs based on government rule, to engage in censorship of the Web and Web content, we will remove our technology and capabilities from the project.

Websense does, however, allow its products and technology to be used in “global filtering” projects where the government mandated policy (1) prohibits minors from accessing pornography and/or (2) prohibits child pornography. With the above guidelines in place, an example of an acceptable use would be government-mandated blocking of pornography to minors by the ISP. If the government requires ISPs to block adult content from all users, but permits an adult user to gain access to that content after providing proof of age, this would be in compliance with our stated policy. Websense, however, does not engage in any arrangements with foreign governments (or government-imposed arrangements) that could be viewed as oppressive of rights.

Websense may have incorrectly categorised the site. You can email suggest@websense.com to ask them to investigate why the site might be incorrectly classified.

Also, the Websense Security Gateway has an Active Security Module which enables dynamic categorisation of websites. The site may be falling foul of their detection routines for some reason, be it legitimate or simply a false positive.

As it stands, no one else seems to be flagging the site, so I'd say Websense is possibly at fault here.
