  • Creating your own religion
     OP - August 11, 2011, 01:46 PM

if you was to create a successful religion how would it be? note SUCCESFUL not ethical or moral.

Let's come up with a'super-religion' that can somehow trick people into giving their souls, their lives and most importantly...................their WALLETs

Would your religion have one divine being or multiple? I would have one, so not to confuse people. I would let him be seen so that we could sell pictures of him, statues, t-shirts, portraits, replica's etc. Having a religion which forbids images is not conducive to the good of the religion.

Religious text for people to refer to ? one thick book for everyone, also a limited/deluxe edition version would inspire and fill up pockets. It would have to be very long and have a creation theory. A moral code should be set down too. Also stories about how people who followed your moral code were blessed and people who didn't died horribly.

A couple of characters with flaws, but ultimately teach us about how to live our lives according to these beliefs ? some central influential figures and messiahs to look up to are a must, with stories of great heroism and how they overcame hardship struggles and hurdles against all the odds. Some superman like powers to perform miracles also helps to create an 'aura'. Every religion needs a prophet, some one to idolize and look up to.

Fear mongering/consequences on what will happen to you if you fail/refuse to follow the beliefs we have established ? heavy punishments, however our religion is merciful and you'll eventually get forgiven. Also we need a believable story and we need to have a way of disproving other religions and showing this is the right one.

Prizes/Rewards for following the religion ? endless supply of women/food/material possessions is a great motive to join any religion. Emphasize HEAVILY the rewards of joining our religion and how the hardships are small in comparison to the rewards.

Emphasis it's advantages: Keep on repeating AND repeating it's advantages. Every religion has to continuously publicize it's advantages to exist. If they don't no religion stop itself perpetuating. We have to keep putting our ideas into people's heads to make sure people base their entire lives, being and actions around the religion. Let's make them think they can't exist without it, make them think it's a necessity. Once we do that we can hit them where it hurts .. YES their WALLETS...

Our religion will have a dedicated marketing department.

Equality? the religion sees everybody as equal. Political correctness is very attractive proposition, especially in the 21st century.

What's forbidden ? pork and red meat. Our religion is health conscious. 'A holier healthier alternative' would be a great slogan. Also once that swine-flu pandemic gets cracking again people will really begin to flock to us. Weed is legal: advocate the use of marijuana as a way to reach a higher level of spirituality since the movement to legalize marijuana is gaining more and more steam. Discourage excessive alcohol consumption and heavily promote how it's gonna stop '1000 drink driving accidents a year'.

Festive Holidays? At least 3 a year, where we encourage mass consumerism and buying lots of presents to show how you love for your friends/family by buying them expensive presents. Our religion is also gonna boost the economy. Also inventing products which somehow attach significant to that festive celebration.. ie eggs to signify the birth/creation of the religion.

For the kids ? possibly a cartoon character, a colorful and bright lovable singing, dancing cuddly Santa Claus like character to suck the kids in.

Anal sex will be forbidden. Anal sex exposes participants to infections and physical damage to the anus and the rectum due to their vulnerability. It is generally understood that penetration can be painful

How would you mould your religion ?...there's some creative, smart people on here. Let's see what we can come up with  Wink

I think creating your own religion is what everyone should do
it's the super religions that are the problem

Dude, I was thinking about this just the other day in the shower. Unfortunately you've just ensured that your made up religion probably would not be successful because you'd have to ensure that no one can confirm it's a made up religion in order to preserve the illusion of authenticity. Which has just been shattered by the record of this thread.

    how fuck works without shit??

I think many people have thought of this- it's not the money but the misguided desire to 'improve the world' by making everyone adhere to your individual likes/desires and stay away from your personal dislikes. Creating a religion is not new, it's done often and very rarely do they catch on, or rather they catch on briefly to few and are known as cults. The reality is the 'religion' phase of humanity is passed, only the lingering threads remain.

However, keeping in line with the post I would propose that you utilise the tried and tested methods of our forefathers but bring in something new, a little spice. Almost all aspects of the abrahamic religions stem from the egyptians and/or greeks, the 'new' versions (Christianity from Jewdaism, Islam from Christianity) created a new ideology which was basically a mix up of the previous and so on. Therefore, in order to create a religion that's believable and will infiltrate more efficiently it is logical to use what's already there and jumble it around a little, change some bits etc. For example, the story of Jesus is from the Egyptians (virgin birth, star, son of god/god of sun), the story of genesis is from the greeks etc.

So in summation the best approach would be to just take islam, remove the errors, add in 'scientific knowledge'- basically knowledge that is currently theoretical parts of which will be actualised, add or remove the bits you like/dislike then make sure to write in a poetic fashion that is vague and open to interpretations, deliberately use words that have vague and/or multiple meanings.

Personally I find the idea of male supremecy foolish. I find that in the barbaric past where physical strength was supreme the males used this to assert dominance and were in fact the 'superior'- women were dependant on the tarzans of the day to provide food and protection. However, in this age of reason it's quite obvious women are superior. Women are more intellectually capable. Plus, as Islam keeps saying (to promote polygeny) the sex ratio is tipping in favour of women, plus scientific studies show that this will increase to a point where females greatly outnumber males. Therefore it seems logical that a religion that favours women will eventually supercede all others!

The religion will support equality but in the same way islam does, except with female bias. There will be elements of the karma sutra within the religion as pleasing a female sexually is pleasing to 'god' (or whatever we call HER!), procreation will be advised against or at least limited due to the booming population, adoption will be promoted above procreation. Sex will be for fun, not to make babies. Marriage will be about love and not a financial contract. Physical beauty will be a thing to be admired, to be proud of, not sinful and shameful. There will be no gender based role assignment, rather that each should do what (s)he is best at

This new religion will promote education, encourage women to concentrate on improving the world rather than over filling it with genetically crap offspring. Procreaction will be limited. The more able/intelligent women will study and lead as will the more able and intelligent men (although to a lesser degree naturally since there are more smart women!). Procreation must be oficially licenced, screening couples to ensure good genes. The more advanced (intellectually and aesthetically) men and women will create the quota of children permissable- this will be done artificially and assigned (implanted) in females selected based on suitability and raised by these females and their partner who will be the child's legal parents. So in this way the majority of couples will be allowed one child only while some deemed unsuitable will not be permitted to procreate.
Surrogacy will be advocated- successful women will be encouraged to have children and raise them with their partner but not to carry the child or give birth as, contrary to the lies circulated, pregnancy and child birth affect a woman physically and psychologically- this will be done by lesser females (surfs) and they will be paid handsomely for this- this job will be highly regarded in the new world.

The religion will have a female prophet of course! This person will be a perversion of a greek myth/goddess.

    Here is one for ya

    Quote
Bokononism is a religion invented by Kurt Vonnegut as a fictional religion, and practiced by many of the characters in his novel Cat's Cradle.

It starts off well enough with: "Verse 1: All of the true things that I am about to tell you are shameless lies. "
