I will name my son Sir and my daughter Lady. It’s all good and legal, though I think you can’t change a name to those. It’ll make people assume they’re royalty grin12.

There's nothing particularly Islamic about those names. One of them isn't even an Arabic name.

I tend to think of Islamic names as ones with good meanings attached to them, so I'd consider them Islamic. One is creepily close to my own, actually.  whistling2

The U.S., Texas, to be specific. I'm the product of two very studious and pious Southern converts, if that makes any difference. All of my siblings have Arabic/Islamic names in spite of our ethnicity.

No. My ancestors on both sides are from Louisiana or Mississippi for as far back as I can recall. All Baptist Christian with the exception of my parents.

I like how that list in the first post is filled with the names of band members and actors.

My parents had originally intended to name me Sahar and I'm kinda glad they didn't. My name's kinda neat. The only name I have a particular attachment to at the moment is Nefertari since it's just friggin' beautiful. <3

This is how my parents decided to name me: my dad read names from a looooong list and if I cried/laughed or did anything noticeable after a certain name, I'd get that name. Apparently I sneezed right after the name I was given. Thank da lawd it's decent.

My parents wanted to name my first sister ‘A’ishah, after the prophet’s victim wife. I kept repeating a different name over & over again so they named her that instead. Haha.

I named my brother when my mum was still pregnant and she didn't know if it was a girl or boy. The fucker popped out, and he had a penis, so they went with the name I came up with. I make sure I remind him of that fact at least once a day: MOTHERFUCKER, I NAMED YOU.
Without the swearing bit though. Swearing is as severe as apostasy back home.

In spite of? Yeah cause you never meet non-Muslim Black folks named Malik, Omar, Mohammed, or [insert Arabic/Muslim name here] Cheesy Man, when I was growin up there were hardly any Arabs or Muslims where I was but a lot of Black folk, so whenever someone heard my name before they met me they just assumed I was black. Sometimes people still do. And if you lived where I do now as someone from a Black Muslim convert family you wouldn't feel out of place at all with your name-- I got brothers givin me salams all the time when they hear my name and almost all the niqabis in Philly are black. I'm just assuming there aren't nearly as many in your neck of the woods-- correct me if I'm wrong.

    fuck you

I actually don't know many non-Muslims with Arabic names except for the occasional Jamal or Malik and they're very rare. I'm sure they're more common elsewhere but my original point was to make sure Harakaat understood the distinction between where I'm from and my and my siblings' names. Pretty cool that you associate with people like that just by giving them your name, though. All I get is people mispronouncing it three or four times with nothing that sounds remotely like it. I like Soren for a girl, Sasha for a guy
(I like androgynous names Smiley )

I suppose if I had a kid right now it would be Soren Isobelle for a girl, and maybe Sasha Rayne for a guy...(I mean if I was the sole decision maker in these sorts of things)

I change my mind all the time on names though  Smiley
