    I agree with you there Berbs. As more people become non-religious, it is a good way to challenge stereotypes. Just because someone has a muslim name doesn't mean they have to be a Muslim.

    I really love my last name because it's unique (have never met anyone outside my extended family with the same last name) and doesn't even sound like a muslim name.

    Plus it means desert so I think it's awesome  cool2.

     It's only the Muhammad(middle name) I want to drop. Shit is way too friggen common.

    Words, even names have no religion. All names mean something. The word muhammad existed before Islam. Muhammad is the name given to so called a prophet - so it becomes a religious name.

    That you should name children cause you like the name not because of their origins and uses through history. My cousin's baby is called Theodore, which means gift of god, she is in no way religious, she just liked the name so used it.

    My first and middle name are ultra catholic and it does not bother me in the least since my first name is very common.
    My only child has a beautiful Hebrew/biblical name and I had no reservations giving him that name even though I'm an agnostic atheist.

    You can name your kids whatever you want as long as you like it, many Christian, Hebrew and Arabic names are quite beautiful and shouldn't be shunned just because they sound religious.

    I just realized that even though I'm a Canadian there is no such things as a "Canadian name" so i'll probably just give my kids(if i have them in the future) some European name. You know just to save them from being asked by muslim classmates: oh so ur a muslim? what?!? then why do u have a muslim name?

      I would still give them my last name because it is not a name that one would tend to associate with Islam. It's a persian name and sounds sexy... cool2

    Forgive me Berbs but isn't your daughter's name only Arabic, not Muslim? Also one of your son's names - the one that begins with N -  pretty sure I've heard 'Christian' Arabs with that name.

    I'm kind of dreaming / inspired lately to have a kid or two. Grin A family in particular inspired me. The nesting period along with the father seems like an awfully sweet time. I know what I would name my little girl if I had one. Smiley

    If it's a boy: Happymurtad (after our dear resident Prophet ( bunny)). In a generation this will be THE name Twins: (derived from Kafir)  Kaf and Kuf, or 'Fidel (derived from infidel).

    I just want to stay away from the middle eastern names all together. Thought about the name Deyr (Dayr) in Somali which means autumn for a boy and Xiis (H harsh h + ees, which means to desire or to long for)  Cheesy for a girl. And autumn especially for the boy if he ends up looking like most men in our family with tan skin and hair bordering on brown.

    I know my chosen names are sort of standard but if I have kids I would love to name them Michael, Jacob & Lily and hopefully if I marry who I want they would have his last name. My name is the strangest ever but I don't think I mind sticking to it.

    I'd think it's be better to give them some non arab/non muslim names. 

    Cuz I wouldn't want other kids to keep asking my child in school are you muslim ? why not you have a muslim name?
