    Not that this thought would slightly come across my thoughts myself... but if I ever do fall in that situation then I'd choose the one's you listed, such as: Adam, Daniel, Sarah, Jasmine etc... I feel that those are neutral and as you say, it won't raise eyebrows.

    You know i've wondered if I ever do have children what I would name them, and I've always loved names like Elisabeth and Nessa but as a muslim knew I couldnt name my children that, now that I no longer am I would pick a name I loved and if my family had any problem with it I would tell them to stuff it Tongue

    Although there are Islamic names that I still love, like Mikaeel and Taymiyyah(LOVE that name!) So I might pick that too Afro

    Depends on whether your family is childish, backward, and arrogant enough to force their opinion what you should do with your own children.
    In any case I wouldn't name them to please my relatives.
    Would you circumcise them for the same reason?

    I think most names will have some connection to religion.

    Baz or Shabaz isn't really religious if you think about it because it means "Hawk" or "king of hawks". Even the meaning if Osama is lion isn't it? Even if a name is non religious there is probably someone religious with that name.

    My actual name is Bharat. It's real meaning is a combination of 3 words: passion, rhythm and feeling. Another way it's translated is "Devoted to light against darkness". It has a religious connection because of the Mahabharata and through the Ramayana (Ram's half brother was Bharat).

    Find names with meanings you like and don't care if religion has adopted the name.

    Wiktionary is probably a better source for more common names though:

    Very few names have "Biblical" or "Islamic" roots. In fact if a name appears in the Bible or in early Islamic history, then most likely it is pre-Christian or Pre-Islamic.

    For example Omar/Umar was obviously named that way by his pagan Arab parents because Islam did not exist yet. It means simply "to live a long life".

    Similarly, Luke, a so-called Biblical name, is from Greek Λουκᾶς and simply means "a man from Lucania".

    I like Persian names. Names like Shahrukh, Farrukh and even the names from antiquity like Cyrus and Xerxes.

    I could understand why an apostate would not name their child(ren) a muslim name like Abdullah or Abdulrahman but not arabic names like Omar or Hassan even if they are usually associated with important figures in Islam.

    I love the name Helena, which has Grecian orgins, I don't know why, I just love it. Ooh and I've always loved Mina which appears in various languages. Neither of those carry any religious connotations.

    Tongue I've babysat so many kids over the years that I'm not even sure I want one of my own...want to be set free!  Grin but if I ever did I always liked the turkish name Arzu for some reason.

    I was thinking of changing my muslim name to something else later on but it's a shitload of paperwork. Plus my original first and last name are the ones that will show up on my degree and shit.

    But even if I don't change my first and last name I'm definitely gonna drop "Muhammad" as my middle name.

    My kids unfortunately have muslim names, as I was a muslim when I named them.

    I considered changing their names many times, but their names are their names and that is just how it is.  If anything the future will serve as an example to many who assume a muslim names means a muslim child.

    It doesn't.

    I'm sure it won't be easy though, I just think if they want to change their name, they can later on in life. 

    My name is muslim, my name doesn't give me the grief.
