I downloaded it today aswell, but somehow it's 2am in the morning, and I am here, instead of watching it. :/

No she didn't win, albeit I had a lump in my through near the end. It's 2am here too, will think about sleeping but I know I'm going to find some way to waste another hour on the computer.

Can't thank you for missing the fact that it is in my 'watched' list already.   Tongue

Darn it!  Tongue It deserves mentioning twice though.

WTF?  you watching dubbed or something?

Maybe watch some adult themed anime?

I've seen a few episodes of Gundam Wing subbed, if that counts. Sure it's not as bad as dubbed, but still pretty lame.

    All I'm sayin' is this:

3 pages in a thread about anime recommendations and no mentioning of bakabt forums, I am disappointed fellow addicts. They got a good recommendations subforum, search there and you might find what you need without having to post.

Back to main post, I can't think of something as dark+sad as elfen lied that wasn't already mentioned, closest I can get to is Saikano... and probably Bokurano. (tip:watch some episodes from either of them without knowing anything before hand).

My addiction got less, but I still watch every now and then.

If anyone wants to watch something totally unrelated to what is being recommended so far in this thread, I'm recommending Nanoha  Tongue

It was a tongue in cheek comment, Moe.  Wink

Tbh Anime are a bit weird judging by 'Western' standards but that is in fact a part of the appeal afaic. Do you remember Fisheye character in Sailor Moon perchance?

This was a good kid's anime:

I always feel like they're making the story up as they go along on the few occasions I've watched anime.

I think that applies to just about every (long) serial.

I stopped watching anime and choose to read manga now since its so much quicker. It has been a couple of years since I actually watched anime, but when I did watch, I would go through them like it was an addiction. I relate with feeling ashamed to still enjoy manga lipsrsealed

Based on your posts in this thread, I really recommend you check out a series called Welcome to NHK. Its pretty dark but covers some social problem in each episode.

One of the best IMHO (personally I think it is THE best). Berserk is somewhat similiar until you realise the anime is only a backdrop for the actual tale.

I always feel like they're making the story up as they go along on the few occasions I've watched anime.

That is probably because most of the popular anime are based on serialised popular manga which for sure are thought out as they go along. Anime (and manga) is a medium, not a genre, its really a matter of finding what is out there for your age/taste group. Unfortunately most of the big money is in the pre-teen and young teen market so you get more material aimed at them, however there can be some really choice material for older teen and the adult category (though less for adults since it is a much smaller market). Even when I did watch anime I was very selective of what I watched since 80% is rubbish (ok thats unfair,  it is just not aimed at me).

Even the hentai, they seem to be making it up as they go along.

I tried watching Neon Genesis Evangelion about three months ago.
Got through five episodes. Thing is, though, my anime tastes are more Sailor Moon and Hetalia. Especially Hetalia. I am a yaoi fangirl, after all.

I've never watched an anime series before - so I could use some reccs  Smiley but I've seen hentai  Cheesy and that is the most disturbing shit ever.. like worse than any human porn could ever be - I guess because they can add so many fantasy aspects to it, like penises growing out of bodies and out of bellybuttons or whatever. Grin

Ok, so what should I start off with? Right now I have open now and then, here and there... but I think I'm gonna crash and watch it tomorrow.

Rather be forgotten than remembered for giving in.

Would you recommend Berserk then? I definitely agree that Gungrave is the best that I have seen. I watched it a while back (got the boxset) and loved it. When I got an HDTV I decided to watch it on there and it was still so magnificent. The ending actually had me Cry at the emotion.

The 1st episode starts in the middle of the story, the next 17 or so episodes are a flashback, and form the bulk (and best part) of the story.
