Cool vid, thanks! And there's more: In Oct 2009 a genus predating even astralopithecus was formally announced (the specimen, Ardi, was unearthed in the Great Rift Valley in 1994). The new species is called Ardipithecus ramidus. I recommend the July 2010 issue of National Geographic, which had a fantastic 30 page section on the great rift valley and Ardi, the oldest known hominid, 1.2M years older than Lucy. It's kind of ironic how the Quran says Allah made Adam out of clay, and now we are using clay like in this vid to reconstruct what really happened!

Problem is that vids like this are of limited use when dealing with creationists. They can and do just discard stuff like this by claiming that all the fossils are of separate species and not transitional.

Before you can make any impact, you have to get creos to absorb the fundamentals of how evolution occurs. Perhaps the most important part of this is to get them to think about what a species is. They tend to think it is something rigidly defined with definite boundaries, whereas in reality it's more of a convenient pigeonhole that people use to make classification easier.

Ring species are a much more useful thing to talk about than transitional fossils, because ring species demonstrate the fluidity of genomes in real time. Get that basic point across and you can then elablorate to drive home further points about evolution. Smiley

Aronra has tons of material explaining how evolution works... there are tons of books and materials in the web and libraries and schools explaining how life adapts, but the people who are willingly ignorant will ignore these informations no matter what...

Just look at the sun and the moon, rotating around the earth perfectly! Out of all the never ending space in the universe, the sun and moon ended up close to earth rotating around it perfectly.!!

Oh sure, but my point is that you'll never get anywhere by throwing transitional fossils at them until you have got the basics through their heads.

There is plenty of variety within our own species:

Examples like that tend to bolster the creo position, because they use such examples to claim that any fossils which appear close enough to be truly transitional are just examples of normal variation within species.

    Not necessarily.

My position is that there are only four possible reasons for someone to be a creationist. These are ignorance, stupidity, insanity and dishonesty. You neglected to take into account three of the possible reasons. Wink
