Welcome to the forum. I really hope things work out between you and the Afghan guy. And like previous posters said if you marry him it will be easier for him to apply for american citizenship

You might be tempted to dredge up surah 2:62:

Surely those who believe, and those who are Jews, and the Christians, and the Sabians, whoever believes in Allah and the Last day and does good, they shall have their reward from their Lord, and there is no fear for them, nor shall they grieve.

As I have explained a number of times before (and which has obviously not penetrated your smug exterior) "good" Christians and Jews are, when all is said and done, recognizable by their acceptance of the divinity of the Koran ie THEY BECOME MUSLIMS.

You would make a great salafi dude, seriously this qu'ran quote is one the salafis use to justify saying that sufis and shia and any muslim who uses bid'ah as being mushrikeen (idolaters) and hence going straight to jahannam.

And no, I haven't heard any of the 'ulema say that muslim men can't marry christians or jews, in fact even Mo married one himself. The closest to being haram, is hearing 'ulema say that it is makruh due the fact that it could 'cause one to leave Islam, or the fact that the kids could grow up to become christian or jewish, or due to the impracticalities of making worship harder for the Muslim etc...

P.S, I still hate it when people call the Qu'ran, the Koran, despite not being muslim anymore.
