    The peak i took in the book made me realize that I don't even wanna pretend to be a Muslim (muslim by "tradition").... Anyway I was saying that the recitation of Quran as done by the sheiks posted here have no emotional effect for me since drums are missing... Sufis/shias use instruments in their extatic chantings, which makes it a lot cooler and much more interesting for my ears Smiley...

    MAB, look at minute 3:10 and onwards in the second vid i posted... This music has much more potential than quran poetic recitation... If i had a gun in my head and the option to die or join one god fearing fraternity, I would surely join the mustache dervishes , which would allow me to drink and then listen to trance music while pretending that we are praising Ali and mourning Qerbela.

    I don't know, maybe I'm alone in this, but I never thought the Qur'an was pleasant or moving, read or recited in arabic or english. In fact, I thought when it was recited it was VERY unnerving and downright creepy and unpleasant to listen to.  Huh?

    Allah just seemed to me to be one of those creeps who spent all of their time in the basement writing bad, convoluted poetry, who you just KNEW could snap at any minute and go on a murderous rampage.

    I think the English translation lacks the poetic take that I hear is in the Quran so I don't find the english very inspiring, it mostly sounds like overwrought self aggrandizement mixed with dictatorial commands.  The recitations in Arabic sound pleasing to me rhythmically and tonally, but what I do find creepy is the importance that Muslims place on it as some kind of mythical entity capable of overwhelming a person.  I can't tell how many posts or da'wahs I have heard that someone posted an azan then spent the next 10 posts telling me how magical and moving it is, how it moves people to cry and insta- converts people, how each symbal matches a rhythmic scale to produce such beauty.  It detracts from what could have been a heart felt song and transforms something perhaps genuine into something cheap.  
    So once again I'm left with the classic Irish man's dilemma, do I eat the potato or do I let it ferment so I can drink it later?

    Hindi, or Urdu? I don't have enough time around either language to differentiate.  Also the women are gorgeous.

    Great music I have not heard before!  Afro I am sorry to post a fundamentalist jihadi song after all that, but I think it relates to the subject. It is in russian and I found this guys' songs very moving when I was a mu'min. I think he converted more people to Islam with his songs than any recitations of the Koran in the region. I still think he's very talented and his propaganda is very powerful. I wonder if those of you who don't understand the words can still find anything special in it?:

    Well, here is a group that play nice music, but the vocal being a practicing muslim put two songs that have religious motives... But it is not extreme at all... He does not even mention the word Allah, but Zot (God)..... Could be compared to "Christian Rock"... Spiritual Rock....

    Well Christian rock for the most part absolutely sucks because it attempts to emulate "secular" rock without any heart felt emotion.  Family Guy made fun of this by replacing all the emotional connective words like baby or honey in secular songs for God and Jesus and came out with a Christian rock songs.  Thats why I think more highly of Gregorian chants than I do Christian rock, because one is an attempt at least to create a ritualistic connection though song with something more than themselves while the other is a crass appeal.

    Ok I am quite surprised there were people that enjoy listening to the quran. I love Surat Al rahman. I have that one memorized and I sing it whenever i want to calm down. I speak arabic but I still have a lot of trouble understanding it. So its mostly jibberish to me anyway. But its just like music to me.
