On February 26 a Misdemeanor court in the city of Helwan sentenced Kamal Abbas, the general coordinator of CTUWS, in absentia, to six months imprisonment for “insulting a public officer” during the 2011 International Labour Conference in Geneva. The sentence refers to Thursday 9 June 2011, when Kamal Abbas interrupted Ismael Fahmy while he was delivering a speech to the Conference.

Kamal Abbas, who attended the Conference as a representative on the ITUC delegation, is accused of expressing his objection to the claim that the old state-controlled Egyptian Trade Union Federation truly represented Egyptian workers.

The international trade union movement is extremely concerned by this sentence against Brother Abbas, and its implications for Freedom of Association, Freedom of Expression, and democracy in Egypt.

We ask you to take part in this campaign to pressure the Egyptian authorities to immediately withdraw all charges, annul the sentence, and to refrain from any further harassment against trade unionists or other civil society representatives for the exercise of their legitimate activities.

The cuts will mean that some refugees will not have coverage for prenatal care or even treatment for a heart attack! Others will be able to receive a diagnosis of diabetes, but no insulin to treat it.

In March 2012, following his exposure of a supposed miracle at a Catholic Church in Mumbai as nothing more than the result of a leak, a complaint was lodged against Sanal Edamaruku by local Catholic organisations with the Mumbai police, who are now able to arrest him. He has been denied 'anticipatory' bail which means if arrested he faces a long term in prison merely for explaining the science behind an apparent mystery.

Bull shit comes in various flavours ! It's comical how one group claims their BS is better than the others. It's basically a live and let live amongst the bullshitters[like crooked politicians].
People are worried that once one BS is exposed other skeletons will roll out of the cupboard.

Ooh I was just going to comment about this! I have just signed the petition myself I have always thought Scouts should be open to everyone regardless of their beliefs

The Church of England has voted to continue its ban on female bishops. Such is its legal right, but this is yet another reason why it's time to stop giving the exclusively male clerics an automatic place in the UK parliament. By October 2012, as Powell was looking into attending another college, she said she was told that Grace would only transfer the credits from her three and a half years if she paid a $6,300 tuition bill from the semester during which she was suspended for being gay. The university denies they have withheld her transcripts, but Powell said she's only been offered a student copy she cannot use to transfer........

It sounds like they aren't backed by any organisation. If they brought their case up with Southern Poverty Law Center or some other civil rights group I think they could get plenty more help than just the debt dropped. As discrimination goes this sounds pretty bad.

Sounds like she needs a lawyer. If they are a private institution, they can do pretty much anything they want. However, she fulfilled their terms to be readmitted but they decided not to readmit her anyway. It seems like that point is where she has a case.

Aside from the reason for her being kicked out, everything else sounds like pretty much SOP for any university. I feel bad for her and I hope she can get the debt forgiven, but maybe she should have chosen a university that wouldn't have kicked her out for being gay in the first place.
