And yeah, i love those evolution simulations! Do you know if they sell those programs to the public?

Thanks, I ran a quick search by popularity on youtube - of its kind, the theory of chaos video understandably is the most popular!

However number 2 spot was held by this video, which I have not watched yet - anyone seen it & recommend it?

(by the way just remembered there are some Carl Sagan videos in this arena which are really good, particularly the one where is mathematically computes the probability of alien life)

Haven't seen that one yet. But I don't like the sound of the title. I like to learn the really complex trippy stuff like black holes, universes and such.

Yeah, basically search BBC Four and Horizon on youtube and you have these great science/math documentaries. Arguing about religion doesn't interest me anymore. I have these programs to keep my mind occupied.

Another one that might debunk our current understanding of genetics, how epigenetics & environmental factors can influence our genes at the DNA level

This is actually one of the videos that got me interested in mathematics and specifically, formal logic and set theory. I really dislike how they sort of gloss over Godel's Incompleteness Theorem, though to be honest explaining concepts such as transfinite sets(which I found the cricle analogy to be fufilling) and axiomatic systems to a non-specialist audience is pretty difficult. Doing these concepts justice in an hour really shouldn't be expected, though I still feel that it just chucked Godel into there for shits and giggles. Still love this documentary though.

Yep, To infinity and Beyond documentary is pretty good, one thing puzzled me though.

    I get how

    infinity +1= infinity

so it sort of follows that

    infinity -1= infinity

    &

    infinity-2+infiinity

but then it say infiinity minus anything = infinity

    including

    infinity - infinity=infinity Huh?Huh??

    How can this be?

it's not necessarily equal to infinity, it is just undefined. it's undefined in the same way x/0 is undefined(as defining it as 'infinity' has bad consequences).

though really, i'd have to ask if you're talking about infinity; which infinity? the 'countable' infinity(i.e. the 'size' of the set {1,2,3,4,...}) or the 'uncountable' infinities(which are larger).

also, just to make this clear: infinity is not a number, it's a concept. with respect to any diverging sum(e.g S = 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + 5 +...) infinity is just indicating that this sum goes on forever and does not settle at any value.

maybe tlaloc can explain this better than i can :/
