  • Mohammed, Britain's Most Popular Boy's name

    Quote
LONDON (AFP) - – Mohammed was the most popular name for newborn baby boys in England and Wales in 2009, according to official data released Wednesday.

But 12 different spellings of the name, each listed separately, meant that Oliver officially topped poll.

The name, given to 7,364 children, ended Jack's 14-year reign at number one, with Harry, Alfie and Joshua rounding out the top five in the figures published by the Office for National Statistics.

The two most common spellings of the Muslim name came in at 16th and 36th place, a total of 7,549 baby boys, making it the most popular name overall.

So many Muslims name their son after The Perfect Man For Eternity, proportionally speaking the name is so common.

The reason is because Muhammad is so massively popular amongst Muslims. I mean, I know a family where all the males are called Muhammad!

In north Africa too it's number one.

And in Saudi Arabia, when you address some one you don't his name (males of course), you call them Mohamed. It's just like addressing some one with the title "Mr", it's that common!

Well then when some shouts on London roads  the word "Muhammad"., then there will 100 faces looking at the shouter.,  better thing to do is Make Muhammad as "M" and name the kids as M1..M2.. M3...

that solves the problem of London..  I wonder about Girl name? Is it Aisha??

Lol yeah. After I apostasized whenever someone called me "Ya Mohammad" I found it really ironic.  grin12

The readers must realize that Names like these  including "Muhammad" have very little do to with Islam but they are Arabian Pagan names even before the birth of Muhammad..

    Aisha bint Abi Bakr
    Abu Musa al-Ashari
    Umayr ibn Wahb
    Umm Salamah
    Abdullah ibn Abbas
    Habib ibn Zayd al-Ansari

So, Islam is nothing but enhancing Arabian Pagan genealogy that is closely related to Muhammad and his clan along with a Mambo-jumbo manual that is created by some Arab writers of that time after the death of Muhammad.  In modern times Islam  has become Arab Imperialism  with the rules that were prescribed by Muhammad  to that 7th century Arab Pagan towns around Mecca and Madina  along with stupid stuff from Muslim Feudal rulers of medieval and modern times..

My dad's first name was Muhammad, but he had it legally changed.

Strangely ironic, that he wouldn't want to be named after the holy prophet, when he's vehemently religious.

But I guess it had to do with his paranoia, and his excuse for why he couldn't land a good job.

No one calls me it though. It's so prevalent there isn't any risk in disclosing it as an exMuslim I think! Grin

well, Moh seems to be very popular eh(dont understand why). Same can be said about the amount of people named Levy, Cohen, Goldsmith holding onto top positions in Prodominately Christian Countries.

I am sure there are many agnostics named Moh out there.
