  • A question for ex converts about Muslim converts on Ummah Channel
     OP - October 23, 2010, 09:44 PM

"Ummah Channel" has been on the telly in my house all day today. Anyway, they have been parading new (white) Muslims on this channel today and getting them to perform their shahadas and asking them questions about their conversions.

Anyway there are a number of things which strike me about this.

    1. It is a Barelvi Muslim channel - I have never come across converts being attracted to this particular group, which as far as I am aware, is exclusively Indian and Pakistani. As far as I was aware, converts tend to either join Salafi groups or more traditional Sufi tariqahs.
    2. Every convert they had in the studio, they asked the following question - "did you convert of your own free will or were you coerced into it in any way?" to which the new convert would reply "i researched it for x amount of time and I came to the conclusion that it was the truth."
    3. This is the one which struck me the most. All the converts they were parading were very young white boys, probably aged between 14 and 17. Do they always get people that young?

Seems a bit fishy to me! Why are all these boys so young? How much do you think they have actually researched Islam as they claim. Have these boys been conned/exploited?

    The whole thing is creepy.

Muslims who parade this kind of thing should be hounded about Islam's view on apostacy.

They've been conned. They are young because they are probably vulnerable and have been groomed and made to feel wanted.

    Islam is creepy.

    Very creepy indeed.

That was exactly my initial thought! Why would they ask that? If that question wasn't asked, you would naturally assume that it was their own choice to convert.

I'm surprised they didn't have any young, white women converts on to show that Islam is actually nice to women!

    Agreed.

It sounds like these Barelvis want some white converts to boast about and this is an idea they have come up with, i.e. exploit and groom teenage, white boys to convert to Islam.

Humans are prone to many cognitive biases and it's easy to convince someone something when the circumstances are just right, and they already feel a bit disenfranchised from their own social setting.

Ha! boys/men for a change will this tamasha never end! If I were a Muslim I would be wary of these pseudo conversions,it won't do the faith any good at all in the long run. I saw the great 'Anjem Chaudary' converting[Huh?] a boy.If this was a Christian conversion in Saudia Anjem would have been beheaded!

    TAKBEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEER.

The poor kid looks like he just woke up.

Considering the Barelvi are a more peaceful movement than many sects of Islam at least the other kids have half a chance. You have to wonder what kind of background they came from - most likely living in a largely Muslim populated area to start with, having mainly Muslim friends. Or maybe they were just offered 72 virgins straight off the bat.

"Ummah Channel" was reprimanded for broadcasting opinions about how Ahmaddiyas should be killed:

Yeah, or from vulnerable backgrounds, broken homes, living in care, ready to be groomed by the creeps.
