  • Hello a new ex-muslim
     OP - October 09, 2010, 11:32 AM

I am of Somali origin from Somaliland area of the Isaaq clan. Both my parents are religious fundamentalist who believe without doubt that Allah is the almighty God to which we MUST pray five times a day. I am not going to go into too much detail here as i am still gathering my thoughts and will write my essay on the reasons i left Islam. I will say this Somalis are not very good at being forthcoming with their emotions and how they feel about a particular subject. They rather bury their heads in the sand and try to forget such questions even exist. Although my family are somewhat liberal (thanks to Sufi) i still consider them fundamentalist because they hold the quran to be the absolute truth. It's funny if you think about it, my mother said to me when i was younger that we too will have a society that uses science to better our condition. However, the same science they treat with suspicion is the same one that will relieve them from poverty? Well I agreed with my mother, but she fails to realise that sooner or later people will be confronted with the truth. You can't have applied science in a dogmatic religious society one of them will have to go.

Anyway I will write up my story soon. Smiley

Welcome! Looking forward to hear more of your story. Does your family know about you leaving Islam? How long have you been an ex-Muslim for?

I have been officially an ex-muslim since May 2010. But my journey started much earlier about 2001 when i was 16.

No i will never tell my family that i have left Islam. I know their views on apostates.

Just live & let live is my view now

    @ Godisnotgreat

I believe that people tend to hold back until they find a appropriate forum to relate their story without any threat of mistreatment. I only became aware of this forum while searching google for ex-muslims. lol

    Hi  Afro

    HI and welcome. Smiley

This forum is great the first place one can talk openly and make silly joke about Islam.

as ex convert I can be a little more open about my feeling (who cares  I was never the real thing in the first place anyway) still muslims position with apostate is worrying.
