    i used to drink quite a bit at uni (although i was an atheist then). but more recently i've just been having the odd drink with dudes from work. i figured if i really do beleive that islam was for a specific time and place then i should put my money where my mouth is (so to speak)

    good point, & they dont even go round killing each other in order to spread ideologies - they are relatively peaceful & in that sense, without religion, have a better moral compass than us

    I was watching a documentary once and the guy said that Bonobos have frequent sex as a way of keeping the number of fights to a minimum.  That cracked me up, man!  Cheesy

    I read that some researchers think Bonobos are so sharing because they evolved in very resource rich areas whereas chimps evolved in areas which were more barren and therefore competitive.  Humans are like both.  When Mo lived with the Quraysh everything was "you to yours, me to mine" - when he lived in exile they resorted to caravan/town raids, hostage taking, murder, etc.

    no, i don't see the point in telling her (it would just upset her) - although she does take a peak at this forum every now and then, so she just might find out herself and then kick my butt (so stop bringing it up, lol). but i think we love each other too much for it to be huge problem.

    I dont believe that - according to the hadith its haram, & I do believe the hadith are at least somewhat of an account of Islamic history.

    However I do agree that in the Quran the prophet did not ban it, he simply changed his mind later and the hadith record why.

    Nah, the Quran would have to ban drinking "too much" to be accurate.  There are countless claims that moderate consumption of red wine is good for you, yet all we ever hear from Muslims is crap about the wings of flies Smiley
