I think there's one in Brighton, no?

Never knew that. Too cold in UK to go to nude beaches. You'd freeze your non existent knickers off.
It would have to be a hot country.

Yup there is one in Brighton: http://www.british-naturism.org.uk/beaches/beaches_detail.asp?beach_ID=3

I remember a friend told me about it once.

If you take it to its logical conclusion then children shouldn't be allowed at swimming pools either because the sight of them in swimming costumes would have the same effect.

At my local swimming pool in the changing rooms there is a section for kids.

I've not put enough though into it, but I do think a naked child seen in public by an unknown adult is a slight issue. The difference between a hijab is that a woman is more likely to defend herself and can take steps in order to be safe. Even then you'll have rapes with men who really want to stalk a woman and are intent on raping her.

As for kids, they are far more vulnerable to menacing adults. For a better answer, it would be good to look through the datasets and likelihood of children being taken advantages of.

Which generally just means lower benches and bigger cubicles for adults to share and assist them.

We're not talking about children running around naked on their own at your local convenience store. A child couldn't defend itself against an adult regardless of clothing (or lack of).

Most sexual assults against both women and children are by men known to them and occur in closed settings.

do it all the time, whenever I reach a destination on the coast I search out the nudist beaches, nothing more liberating than the feel of dangly bits dangling as nature intended

According to the polls only 1.6 % of Americans are athiests. So what gives you the right to call the other 80% morons?'

I like nude beaches, but it takes some getting used to. It's interesting negotiating with vendors when they're completely nude -- trying to act non-chalant while asking the price of a necklace, while their dong is flopping around in the breeze.  Cheesy

I saw a lot of nudist families at the beach, though it's interesting that I didn't see many children over the age of 5. It's sort of a weird territory after that, though I'd support it anyway.

All I know is there are plenty of ugly people at nudist camps.

So once again I'm left with the classic Irish man's dilemma, do I eat the potato or do I let it ferment so I can drink it later?

There is no option for me.
I would not go to a nudist beach because I think most people have a crappy physique and that would bother me, not the nudity itself :S

Do not look directly at the operational end of the device.

Modesty is purely a societal invention. Clothing has a place in regions where it's needed, modesty is an invention of religion. Any shame or discomfort we might feel, is placed in us by society or a religion.

I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I remain.

There is a nudist beach near me, but the reason I wouldn't go to that one is because the dog beach is near it and my parents take our dogs there. I always have some sick phobia of lying there naked and hearing my parents coming over.

But yes, no problem with nudity. When I was on Leavers (Schoolies / Spring Break), it was the norm for us to play cards naked and I actually felt very free and liberated. When I go to Europe next year I definitely will. I heard Munich has an English Garden and I'd be arriving right in the summer at a time when they have nude parks. If not, Barcelona too.

I'm just not a beach person, full stop. Don't like crowds, don't like sand, don't like getting wet, and I certainly don't like old, hairy naked men.

    If you cut them off

     no

    Thanks for the mental image...

I wouldn't go nude, I'd feel uncomfortable, I wouldn't mind as much going to a nude beach - but keeping my clothes on, I feel comfortable around naked people, at least women, because I've seen them in the swimming pool changing rooms and it felt fine, nothing wrong with it, no awkwardness or anything, although I still covered myself with my towel lol.

I think it's particularly to do with personal space for me, I'd feel invaded, vunrable if I were naked around other people. And for me being naked is a special closeness with the person I love. My ex likes nakedness, wearing as little clothes as possible, when possible and being close to nature. I can understand that and I quite like that too, but privately, not with other people around.

God I have been so Dutchised, at the swimming pools here in the Men's and Women's rooms for changing you just strip and get on your costume, and when you are nude you just carry on the conversation as normal with whoever is in there. I went to a pool in the UK a couple of years ago and did the same, and people were just so detached, people were not talking to one another (unlike in NL where even people you don't know talk to you, and there are kids in there talking to you etc) and just being so hiding and embarrassed by their bodies.

Yes true. Other wise why they feel comfortable naked in remote Africa and the Amazonian jungles?

Id still feel awkward wandering around in the buff, but recognise its purely down to societal conditioning
