Learning to play the guitar is like learning a new language. It is learning to speak through the guitar, and how to make it say exactly what you want it to say. When you are fluent, you don't even have to think about it; it comes out all by itself. Until then, its hard work.

I've not tried the F chord yet, I jumped onto learning beginner songs lol.  I didn't tell you, I learnt a song, a really basic one, but I learnt the chorus and verse. It's not smooth enough, I need to get the switching smoother and uninterrupted rhythm.

So cool! I've been strumming my way through really basic stuff, but I'm still really crappy. The switching is difficult you're right. It's still a great hobby and I'm happy I started it. What song did you learn??

    The F chord is impossible.

It's not. It took me weeks to get it, but I did. And after that, the whole fretboard opened up to me. Remember that the F chord is the E barre shape, so it's extremely useful.

The best thing to do is to practice it a minute or two each day till you manage to do 60 changes per minute. The same goes for all chords.

i am teaching kids. I learned some tricks to help.
Everybody finds switching between chords  hard to begin with. Two things that help.
     1. don't rush. play the song as slow as you need to to have enough time to switch between chords. Slow down the rythym of the song.
    2. dont worry about the strumming hand. Do some exercises where you place the fingers on the chord very lightly, and then do 'reps' of pressing down. This trains your muscle memory to get used to getting all fingers to make the chord at the same time. Often people will move individual fingers. Neuroscience FTW

As for the F chord. There is a version that is not barre.

But when I was learning, I did not know that, and I was forced to learn the barre version. However it was then when I started really making progress. Barre chords is a significant milestone and puts you in a category where you are already better than lot of guitar players.

Just to confirm the suspicions of Muslims that CEMB is nothing but a zionist conspiracy, the Israeli national anthem (with a traditional fuck up in the middle):

    The F chord is impossible.

Is the problem getting your fingers into the shape or is it the tension of the strings? If the latter, you could get lighter strings (or a more comfortable guitar). The former is just practice.

Too fucking busy, and vice versa.

Nice playing, Hass. I've left my guitar for a few weeks. I think I might need a new guitar -better for my tiny fingers lol, and sell this one.
