Islam was a way of life for a long time for me too, until I realised it was what The Rationliser just said.

Abbas: I have an important question for you

If you knew that the truth meant you had to reject something you love and embrace the unknown would you want the truth or would you seek to avoid it?

Or put another way, which pill would you accept from Morpheus, the Blue one (ignorance) or the Red one (Truth)

Allah of it, the bit about Prophet Muhammed dictating it is true.

Just the bit about some angel called Gibriel reading these versus to him whilst he was feeling suicidal in the cave, and the fact that she got them directly from an invisible Sky God from up above.

Call me suspicious, but I not quite sure about this bit.  grin12

    Let me rephrase:
If it could be proven to you that Islam is man made, would you rather not know or is the truth more important?

Guys, I would suggest that only one or two people engage in a discussion if one has to be had. I think we should let Rationalizer lead the discussion.

Edit: I don't want this to turn into a meaningless spaghetti debate where everyone feels compelled to say something.

Both the blue pill and the red pill has its advantages and its disadvantages. Clearly you are biased towards the red pill  Smiley

It would be better if you called the blue pill comfort, or happiness, instead of ignorance. The blue pill is happiness at the possible expense of truth and the red pill is truth at the possible expense of happiness.

As TheRationalizer said, it is just another man-made religion.  Everywhere on this planet (even remote tribes), humans seem to have a set of weird beliefs and rituals, in an attempt to explain and control various natural phenomena.

See the links in my signature below to get an idea what my views are.  Basically the 'scientific method' is my way of determining what is true and what is baloney.  I don't follow any sacred text or any other 'authority'.  I follow the 'evidence'.

which part of the quran do you guys think is man made?

It's your job to prove that it is divine.  Every religion/cult/tribe claims their beliefs are divine.  Why do you reject (several thousand of) them and settle with Islam?  I'm sure their followers also derive a great deal of comfort and satisfaction from their religion, but that doesn't mean they are true. I agree with ateapotist.  You have obviously rejected other religions as being man made (such as Hinduism) but not Islam.  So how about you present to us the objective evidence you found which proves the Quran was revealed by a supernatural entity?

Give me the red pill baby, I don't care what the truth is, give it to me! Smiley
