I remember a great question asked.

Q: If the story of Jack and the Beanstalk were in the bible would you believe it?
    A: No!
    Q: Why not?
    A: Because it's just a fairy tale!
Q: And yet you believe a man was swallowed by a giant fish and then lived in its belly for 3 days?

You know I once had this conversation with a Christian, he actually suggested that in the future someone invents time travel, travels back in time, and puts scuba gear in the mouth of the "fish" with instructions to Jonah on how to use them.

That is self-delusion to the extreme Smiley

Forget the Beanstalk. What about the Tower of Babel.

They tried to build a tower to get into heaven and god got frightened so he made the people speak different languages so they could not communitcate to finish the structure.

Many fairytales are more believable than that, yet they believe it because its in the Book!

I can list to you what bible is just as horrible as the quran if you want. I have been researching the bible and the things in it for a while

also this might help you in a way to see contradictions in the bible and why it is impossible for a rational person with no down syndrome to believe in

i just thought i would post it for giggles cuz i have seen it a lot. i don't know the source nor do i know if it is true but i'm almost 90% positive that it is true. because when you have centuries of people killing scientists because there discoveries don't agree with the bible then i'm sure everyone who discovered something either hide it or a lot of scientists didn't even bother looking.

I agree and mentioned this. A book to stimulate discussion that did not have some of the aspects you mentioned would not stimulate near as much discussion as it does.
That is why no Word should be read literally or too seriously. They are all fiction.

Are you saying that man has been ignorant from the year 300  to 2010?

You might note that much of secular law is bible based or based on other Words.

you are acting as if the bible is the only religion that was created in the past 1600 years, or the religion with the most influence in the past 1600 years at least. I don't think that is true

    Let me try again.

God and the idea of God, at least the miracle working creator God, is a man made concept.
God is imaginary. Early man, instead of saying, I don't know all the time for what he did not know, found it easier to say that God did it.
Note how the Bible sells a God that cannot be understood and is unfathomable.

This reason and perhaps for this as well.

    http://www.canada.com/life/Religion+calms+anxiety+says+scientists/3236785/story.html

Note how often priests and others have said---it is in God's hand, do not blame yourself. This and other well worn phrased to pass the buck.

I agree that if god exists then it is not a man with a beard sitting on a cloud but something that I cannot comprehend, so yes the bible would be right (assuming for the sake of argument that there is a god.)

However, the bible also says a lot of stuff that is wrong.  If this all-powerful being wanted to send us a message it would choose a much better method than a book that is full of errors.

In summary: I am not saying god does not exist, I am saying YOUR god does not exist.

I do not defend it. I show how it should be read and how we should read past the best guess of yesteryear and come up with our own best guess for today.

Is that not what most did here with their ex Word?

If you all did then I would have thought that you all would feel some compassion for your ex friends who still read their Word the wrong way.

Did your loyalty and duty to your friends and relatives die along with your faith?

I never believed so have no ex friends and fellow believers but did not turn my back on those who I can correct.
I think it is the duty of all of us to correct others when we can. Or at least try.
