  • Dream Interpretation
     OP - June 25, 2010, 04:27 PM

I actually just woke from my nap and I'm trying to remember my dream.

According to Wikpedia, dream interpretation is "the process of assigning meaning to dreams. In many of the ancient societies, such as Egypt  and Greece, dreaming was considered a supernatural communication or a means of divine intervention, whose message could be unravelled by those with certain powers. In modern times, various schools of psychology  have offered theories about the meaning of dreams."

Do you "believe" in dream interpretation?

When I was a Muslim, I read that you should tell other about your good dreams and keep quiet about you bad dreams. Furthermore, bad dreams are from the shaytan. What do you guys think of these two bits?

All your dreams mean you are a sexually-frustrated homosexual with a small penis who wants to have sex with your mom and murder your dad-- at least that's what every therapist I've ever went to said to me.

    fuck you

It is inevitable that your dreams will reflect your worries and your hopes in real life.

The BBC did a documentary about this a few years ago.
    Horizon: Why Do We Dream?

    Quote
What the film reveals is that much of what we thought we knew no longer stands true. Dreams are not simply wild imaginings but play a significant part in all our lives as they have an impact on our memories, the ability to learn, and our mental health. Most surprisingly, we find nightmares, too, are beneficial and may even explain the survival of our species.

Dreams are, I suppose, can be interpreted. Since they're from the mind they do mean something or at least there is a reason for it. If I dreamed if chicken, it might be because I ate it the night before, it could be something as stupid as that. Using the same example, it might be because I feel like a "chicken", running away from thing I'm afraid of.

But I don't believe that dreams are divine, tell the future or anything like that.

I don't believe in dreams having some sort of mystical or religious connotation. However, the human mind is very complex and powerful and is a supercomputer that works 24/7

Our conscious self is a small fraction of the unconcious processing that constantly goes on. I feel dreams are just another way of our mind processing the volumes of information it is bombarded with on a daily basis. It can range from random gibberish to our underlying fears, hopes and unfulfilled desires.

^^^That's true. A lot of what you dream is what lies in your subconscious, at least from my experience.

I had a dream there was a god and it was a woman. Plus she was nice and had a sense of humor lol.
She kinda looked like this, but had short blonde hair:

And for some reason the part where the goddess came out repeated itself about 3 times, with 3 different goddesses each time. Same body, different faces. hmm... It was sort of a like a deus ex machina, where she came to rectify everything in the dream.

There were also giant monster like things in the dream kinda like this:

    And a cave. How odd.

I also had a dream I had apostated, but I was a bird for some reason. I was back at my old school in Saudi and was trying to fly, but I couldnt fly very well. If I got off the ground it was for a few meters or something, but it was still very freeing.

There were other birds, but I was the only one that could talk and think. Weird. But it still felt liberating that I had left Islam. It was nice, the sun was shining, etc. Smiley lol

Also, these 2 dreams were in the same night lol.

Well let me write out the details.

I was with this girl I know in real life in some public area. We were looking for the restroom. We found the men's room and I found the ladies' room but my friend told me I wasn't entering the proper way. The was a proper and longer way to enter the ladies' room apparently. So right before I entered, she stopped me and told me how to enter the right way which was to walk a lot... and around some bar.

I tried go the way she told me but it was wasting a lot of time and it was a bit confused. I didn't feel so confused though. I was comfortable. So finally, I turned around and told her (she was walking behind me) that I can just walk into the girl's room the way I wanted to which was simpler. She kept saying no. We got into an argument and then it became a little physical... and then she turned into some other girl I know which I haven't seen since I graduated from school. We rarely speak. I think it's worth noting that she's a very moderate Egyptian Muslim. The security guard was holding her back from me and she was trying to attack me. In real life, we barely spoke to each other.

So then all of the sudden I walk in to the men's room and it looks so elegant and proper. Beautiful even. There was a huge mirror... I didn't look at myself though. There was a section of cologne. It smelt really nice in the room lol. Everything was made out of granite. I think I urinated in a stall... there was only one stall too. So I come back out to wash my hands and I'm looking for some paper towels. I saw to myself "Wow... the men's room isn't that bad after alll!" or something like that out loud. I don't know why I said that out loud. I was alone.

So as soon as I said that, this police officer that's dressed up all nice comes out of an office? There was an office in the bathroom. He heard me and he asked me what I was doing here.

"I walked in here by accident... I'm sorry."
"You're still a female and you're suppose to be in the ladies' room only."
"I know and I'm sorry. I didn't come in here on purpose. There weren't any men in here anyways."
    "Still! You broke the law!"
    "I'm leaving right now..."
    "You cannot!"

And then I guess this guy I know... who I think likes me in real life came out of nowhere and defended me. He told the police office that I'm a really good person and I didn't mean to "break the rules." He also stated that I'm 18 and stuff like that. I didn't see him but I heard him behind me and I knew it was him by his voice.

Then the officer got his hands on me and tried to take me into his office and arrest me... and that's when I shouted that out loud. "YOU KNOW I'M RIGHT AND THAT'S WHY YOU WANT TO SILENCE ME! ONE DAY, I'LL BE BIG AND YOU'LL REGRET DOING THIS!"

Then my phone rang... I woke up and started this thread.

The dream meant something, I'm sure. I haven't remembered my dreams for a long time but I remembered this one and I remembered the details. I wish I saw more...

18, old enough to meet boys, have sex, etc. maybe you still have an Allah in your head that has been holding you back on these subjects, but now you are starting to stand up against him. just a theory lol

Don't believe there's anything mystical about dreams, and never did actually. I found it hard to believe that there are special dreams out there, since most of mine were just plain silly. I mean, if God wanted to send us mystical messages from time to time, then dreams shouldn't be used for silly nonsense at all, let alone so much. God should use it only for really important stuff, and for really important people, not just random farmer in the middle of nowhere.

I've had a lot of dreams where I tell my sister how I feel about it her and all the bad stuff she did, in every single one of them I feel like I'm in danger afterward, and in some cases she tries to murder me. Not fun.

I've had two where my mom tried to kill me too, one was by accident and in the other she was chasing my with a sharp object because of something I said to her.

I had a dream once when I was a kid, about The Last Day, and I was walking and talking with my best friend like nothing serious was happening. People were screaming and panicking, and I was like "Yom al Qiyaamah? yeah, whatever...anyways, as I was saying... wanna come over and try out my new PS2 game?"

Ok, I got this one, Dark-eyed.

Fundamentally, you just needed a wee-wee but because you were asleep you realised it would be a bit embarrassing just to let it all out right then (hence the 'long way round').  At the same time, in your subconscious you remembered your recent trip to the theatre (or was it the pub) when there was an unfeasibly long line for the ladies but no line for the gents.  As with many women, you realised what a ridiculous state of affairs this was and thought the simplest solution is just to go to the gents.  But then your more prudish nature started struggling with you (your old friend) arguing how inappropriate it was to go to the gents.  But in the end, your bladder and your curiousity got the better of you and in you went.

After that it all gets a bit sexual and embarrassing for me, so I'll let someone else take it from here.
