Sure they do, but that doesn't make football the culprit but the people who follow football

Yeh, but that's not what I'm talking about. I simply said the respective cultures influence the decisions of both Muslims and pub-goers.

But what I am saying is that the origin of the homophobia in one case could be a large number of things (fear, sexual abuse, etc), but in the other the origin likely in many cases to be a book.

If I had a table in the city centre and was handing out anti-homosexual leaflets I would be arrested.  If I did the same and handed out an anti-homosexual religious book it's perfectly okay.  There is no way that someone can equate homophobe-in-a-pub to homophobe-in-a-mosque, it's not the same thing at all.

I don't come here any more due to unfair moderation.

Any sort of anti-homosexual campaigner would be attacked (but probably not arrested). Orthodox/radical Muslims don't go around the streets of liberal democracies demanding homosexuality be criminalized. They do it in mosques. And some people probably do it in pubs as well.

Sure, however the context was "Does Islam need better PR?"  Someone commented on the anti-homosexual statements in the Quran and that over 70% of Muslims questioned agreed with them.  The statement that it is the same in pubs was an attempt to say it is normal human behaviour to hate hommers and is nothing to do with the Quran.

Quite simply it's bullshit.  Those Muslims hate hommers because the absolute word of god is that they are abominations, and to pretend otherwise would be dishonest.

Well, Mehdi Hassan was implying that there must be nothing wrong with Islam because hooligans hold the same beliefs. I guess deep down he knows Islam is similar to hooliganism.

Both cultures are repressive. Hooligans aren't the epitome of individual thought.

You could get a culture of football hooligans who hate homosexuals.
You could get a culture of Buddhists who hate homosexuals.
    Shit happens!

However if the football rule book said that all homosexuals are abhorrent I think it would come as no surprise to see that
    A: It attracts homophobes.
B: People growing up with it are raised as homophobes.

I think it would be pretty clear where the finger should be pointed in that case.
