How to be a more understanding person (this is no about religion though)

I notice sometimes that I don't treat the people in my life as well as I should.

Like sometimes I got too caught up in my own problems until I didn't realize how much I was pushing them.

I want to understand people better, I want to understand others better even if they don't end up being true friends to me or people who are not as close as my family.

I want to open my mind more, and be a more compassionate person. To people regardless if they are Muslims or not.

I don't have to be sociable (because I'm not that sociable, I'm reserved), I just wish to be a more understanding person.

Cool. First thing you need to understand is that everyone is basically psychotic and narcissistic. Once you get a handle on that you'll be fine.
