    When in the reply box, I cannot highlight sentences and the insert hyperlink does not work. Huh???

    same problem... been having it for 3 days.

    EDIT:
    Actually I have no problem with adding hyperlinks, only quoting, highliting (which I do manually) and I can't post smileys except this Smiley (since it's just : then ) ).

    Provide more information. Which reply box (full or quick)? Which browser? Etc.

    quick box, IE explorer.. is there an advanced reply box?

    PS. My *guess* it is related to the fact that the page (since 3 days) always shows up with a message in the lower left corner: "Error on page". I refresh, but the problem persists.

    yeah, still the same problem, like I said in my edited response above:

    so I thought it's just my prblem... but Paloma has similar problems it seems.

    That is the one I use and yes I use IE8.

    The thing is that it has worked fine in IE8 until, as Debunker says, some 3 days ago.

    I can quote a whole post, but if I only want to use part of it, I cannot highlight the part I want to erase and am forced to use the reverse button.

    What happened 3 days ago to bring these changes about  and can something be done about it ?

    As far as I know there haven't been any changes, unless Aziz did something.

    Other alternative is if there was another IE8 update three days ago that may have broken something (par for the course with IE8 updates).

    What does the error message actually say?

    "Error on page". Some times, it says "Done", but you still see the yellow triangle with the exclamation mark.

    It's no biggie, afaik.

    On my IE8, Javascript fails at this:

    window.addEventListener("load", smf_avatarResize, false);

    Which ironically is what we were talking about in the other thread :S

    The error is not within smf_avatarResize() which worked fine

    it's window.addEventListener() that fails, because IE8 does not have such method...

    and wtf, I thought IE8 had added standard DOM compatibility :O

     Reply #15 - June 21, 2010, 11:25 AM

    Ironically, if I run IE8 in compatibility mode, a different error happens.

    Apparently, SMF uses a different method to add the event:

    window.onload = smf_avatarResize;

    Which still fails in IE8 :|

    Anyway, I do not think this has anything to do with her problems with quotes and selection, cause those work fine for me anyway.

    So, re-enable smf_avatarResize(), cause that one worked fine ;P
    Now avatar resizing is off for all browsers.

    Oh FFS we do not want avatar resizing off for all browsers. No way. That way lies madness. The js resizing has been working fine for ages. Leave it.

    I looked at the smf_avatarResize() function and afaics it's completely useless. What does it accomplish?
    Oh, now I get it. It tries to emulate the CSS property max-height and max-width for browsers like IE6. LOL

    Well that's still useful considering that IE6 and IE7 are a lot more common than we would like.

    It's supported in IE7. IE6 can be safely ignored, because it's mostly only in use in corporations. Private users are smarter. Wink

    Max-height isn't supported in IE7. Only max-width. Trust me on that.

    Interesting shit. From MSDN:
    Quote
    The min-height/max-height attributes apply to floating and absolutely positioned block and inline-block elements, as well as some intrinsic controls. They do not apply to non-replaced inline elements, such as table columns and row/column groups.

    Do you think max-height works with display:inline-block?

    Fuck IE and Microsoft, man. The cancer of the web.

    Min-height/max-height doesn't work with any block level or inline elements that I've tried it on in IE6 and IE7. It works in IE8 because they finally realised that CSS2 existed.

    ETA: It definitely will not work with floating divs, etc in those browsers. Fine in all others though.

    You can use height (as in fixed) for IE6 and IE7 but they will treat it as min-height and you can't set max-height without nasty hacks.

    I just tested something like:

    <img src="..." style="max-height: 200px; max-width: 200px;">

    Does not work in IE8.
    Works fine in Chrome and FF.
