    So weird for me that they take their dietary restrictions so seriously. To me it's like if someone arbitrarily decided that eating beans was a terrible sin. Pork is just another meat like chicken or beef.

    The interesting thing about food taboos is that there may also be an evolutionary advantage to the reaction. Once a human has it ingrained in them that a certain food is "bad," the avoidance is the same whether it be poisonous or simply taboo. Those poison berries mom sternly told you not to eat in the forest? You'd best spit them out the same way they did that bacon, without thinking too much about why.
