I once convinced my brother who started forming the habit of using a miswaak that its an antecedent of toothbrush,toothbrush is a modern version of miswaak so its still a sunna if you use it. Of course i know its not true but thats the only way i can discourage him from using miswaak.

There was a hadith where it says;
Abu Hurairah Radiyallahu ‘anhu narrates that Rasulullah Sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam said: Were it not (for the fear) of overburdening my Ummah, I would have ordered them to (brush their teeth with) Siwak at every Salat.
(Muslim)

I tried that once during my mohammedan days but i cant stand the taste and twigs stuck in my teeth
