One thing that I love about Somali women (I never got to know any Somali men) is that they will complain about their men. No other woman from any other culture besides Amriki, have I heard complain about their men. Not only would my Somali friends complain, they would joke about them. Every chance they got.
I always end up sitting with a knot of Somali women. Even without hijab. I cannot resist. Such friendly and lovely creatures.

Enough with the Somali love-fest now, lol.

My papa has the view if your going to burn down a girls school, burn down a boys school too, girls should be the same as boys (comment sparked by the recent news in Africa)... I still doubt he would be fine with a girl doing all the shit he did as a man.

How's about not burning down any schools, sheesh.

It's odd how insecure some people can be. In Iran, a statistic in 2012 showed 68% of all science graduates were female. This resulted in the clerics putting a ban on certain science fields for women.

    The were worried about the:

Like they actually believe women are baby-making machines and nothing more.

But they are, didn't you know? The whole Islamic social system, gender roles and family values are constructed so that women end up nothing but baby-making housewives.

Wow, they flat out banned them! And I can't believe they actually admitted that was the reason. Women are literally brood mares to this lot.

But they don't even try the apologetic route and claim Islam loves educating women. I suppose it's better since they're not lying to themselves.

It's only used when "calling people (western women) to Islam". Compare western dawaganda with what's being said by real scholars in the Muslim world to other Muslims, you'll see that it's two very different "Islams" being presented Roll Eyes

That honestly makes me want to beat the shit out of them. I'm assuming they don't have a lot of female friends, but how can you look at the people you love, mothers, wives, sisters, daughters, and not want them to be strong, independent, educated and not at the mercy of others (men)? It's completely alien to my thinking and from an ethical and empathetic standpoint both disgusts and enrages me.

`But I don't want to go among mad people,' Alice remarked.
`Oh, you can't help that,' said the Cat: `we're all mad here. I'm mad.  You're mad.'
`How do you know I'm mad?' said Alice.
`You must be,' said the Cat, `or you wouldn't have come here.'

^The Iranian Ministry of Science, Research and Technology announced that 36 Universities would bar women from enrolling in 77 fields. That sounds like a government ban, and if not, they haven't done anything about it. Many of these universities were public, which means they can't make such a decision without government approval.

However, Iran has a recent history of secularism so I would imagine it would slightly better than their Arab counterparts. I've even read that Iran fully teaches evolution and it does not invoke theistic evolution. It's a shame really because without Islam, I would imagine Iran would be a great nation.

We have had saudi scholars make speeches at jummah prayer in our local mosque in the past telling husbands and fathers to remove their wives and daughters from college and university and if they want to study do it online :/  just infuriating knowing that many men would have followed through with it that day..

in my experience though i have seen most muslim women are highly educated, infact they think you are nothing without a degree in something atleast, suppose what follows after university is a life of motherhood with not much prospects as they have too many children and once they finally get the chance to work years down the line their qualifications are outdated.. There is quite a few school teachers though.. Easier job to fit around children.

I don't think they are presenting two very different "Islams" to western folks.,  these scoundrels are are presenting a small part of Islam..  But funny thing is whatever is there in Islamic scriptures (good and bad) is already there in all religions that these converts were born in to..

I am so sorry, Yeezevee. I beg to differ with you on this.

There are two Islams being presented. The one shown to converts presents women in an exalted status.

Also the religion of Islam does contain elements not present in Christianity. Namely, law. There is no body of law in current Christianity.

    ^ Gold.

I've never shared much of the feelings converts did about Islam... They always seemed so much more contented with it than I ever was as a person who was "born" a Muslim.

The Islam I saw back in Iraq so much less palatable for westerners than the one they are presented with...

The language barrier compounds the problem. You get "translated" Arabi texts regarding Islamic thought or issues or even fatwas, and you find them to be morally acceptable. When you pick up even just a little Arabic, you find the original is not what you read in English, and sometimes not at all.
The progressives call this "accurately translated in accordance with the original intent", but it is apologist literature, and not a true translation. They do it with Quran, too.
I really felt betrayed when I discovered this "translation" discrepancy.
I found much of what was accurately translated was from Pakistan. I wish I could remember the name of that blue book they give to new brides "Pearls of Heaven" or something. That was a real eye opener.

............I wish I could remember the name of that blue book they give to new brides "Pearls of Heaven" or something. That was a real eye opener.............

Cheesy Cheesy  .,  there is a book  "Pearls of Heaven"  for Muslimah?  I never heard about that..

Actually  "Pearls of Heaven"  is a poem that Shia guy Nasir Khusraw..

Pearls of Heaven   By Nasir-i Khusraw
    Quote
Above the seven spheres are two precious pearls whose light illumines the world and mankind.
In the placenta of non-existence, from the sperm of existence,
they form images but themselves have no form.
Not contained by the senses, they are not sensible; neither
dark nor bright, they are not visible.
Reared in pre-eternity by the holy wet-nurse, they are not
pearls but have the attributes of pearls.

From this side of creation and that side of the universe,
within and beyond time, they are always together.
They are not in the world and yet they are in it; they are not
within us but nurture the soul in our bodies.
It is said that they are both the worlds; therefore they are
in the seven climes but not in the seven climes.

    This one is the Holy Spirit and that one the Spirit of Gabriel;
they are flying angels but have no wings.
In the nest of the lower world they appear with open wings,
but in the higher world they fly without wings.
They are friends with the hot and the cold, the dry and the wet,
as are earth and air with fire and water.

In the treasure-houses of pre-eternity and post-eternity, they are
not pearls but recognized by the name of pearl.
They are both the world and mankind, paradise and hell; they
are absent and present, poison and sugar.
They come from light to darkness, from heaven to earth, from
the west to the east, from ocean to land.
Existent and non-existent, hidden and manifest, they are
without and with you in the same house.

In the next world which is their forge and furnace, they are
the destroyers of the building and the builder.
    They are the chiefs of the nine spheres and the seven planets;
they give sustenance to the five senses and the four natures."
Around their home, there are ten witnesses, of whom five stay
inside and five stand at the door.

The shopkeepers of heaven come before them in order to
purchase what they have to sell.
    They are not substance, for substance takes accident from them;
they make an axis for accident, but they are not the axes.
They read to you the book of secrets without letters; they
know your deeds without having to see them.
They appear because they are hidden; they are without head or
body because they are in the head and body.
Their attribute is that they are not contained in the world,
but they are hidden in our head and body.
They have made this world a place for you to inhabit, but for
them there is no place, for they are beyond space.
They come to you from a place which is not a place; there they
are angels and here they are messengers.

In rank, they are higher than the angelic world; like God's
essence, they are neither element nor substance.
Even though both the worlds are in the possession of this and
that, if you wish, they can be subjugated to your soul

After reading the posts on this thread, I realized how lucky I am to have not been born a women in a religious society. I can't imagine what it's like having to wear hijab, live under the threat of being forcibly married, considered a second-class citizen and a burden. Wow, I really dodged a bullet there. Some of you have had it really rough and I wish you the best of getting out of your tight situations.

If I remember correctly, there was an article floating around a few months ago that said American Muslim women are amongst the most educated, but are the least likely to pursue a career in their chosen field. Instead, university is used as a sort of buffer between high school and marriage. And a degree is used as marriage bait. But I don't remember if I read that here at CEMB, or if it was somewhere else.

"so now, if you leave (Allahu A?lam is you already have) what will u do??? go out and show ur body to all the men??? sleep with countless men?? maashaAllah if you think think this is freedom or womens right then may Allah guide you to that which is correct."

Japanese women are just the same, only it's not religion that holds them back.

This article is from last December. Nothing has changed since, or is likely to inn a hurry.

It's patrarchy that holds women back, Islam is inherently patriarchal. No culture can change that.
