  • Hello from Australia
     OP - September 30, 2016, 12:41 PM

I've had to officially 'revert' to Islam on paper because of visa and other reasons. There's no compulsion in religion, unless it's Islam I suppose.

I've been Christian, Buddhist, very briefly a Quranist, and finally atheist. Interestingly, my online Sunni Arab teacher of Islam herself became an anti-hadith heretic following my constant questioning of obscene and ludicrous ahadith. Once rationalism took her out of Sunnism, she saw many flaws in Islam, but fear of hell keeps her tentatively in the fold.

In a world where the most obscurantist voices are also the loudest, not to mention the most violent, it's reassuring to know there are a minority of people willing to move in the opposite enlightened direction.
