     OP - November 11, 2015, 05:14 PM

    Hello everyone.

Im pleased I found this place. I am from a muslim heritage but am more or less 90% westernised. I am autistic and was isolated from the Asian community (I am actually Guyanese and some of us are more like carribean people).

After 9/11 I made the decision not to adopt a muslim identity because it might marginalise me. Ive had insults directed at me a few times (mainly from white middle people who havent any real idea about it). Practically Id be seen as apostate though not technically.

I had a breakdown and am exploring my Asian routes and Islam. The most western muslims seem to be amadaya muslims but they are seen as heritics so I couldnt really join them.

Im hoping to find others like me who will understand me and not point the finger. I am autistic and struggle in the mainstrain. The sociology shows you ARE segregated as a muslim as well as asian so imagine what its like with austism on top!

Id love to hear from anyone similar or just anyone Smiley

Welcome. parrot What type of autism do you have, if you don't mind me asking?

Have you heard of the new agnostic muslim movement (if it can be called a movement Grin)?

`But I don't want to go among mad people,' Alice remarked.
`Oh, you can't help that,' said the Cat: `we're all mad here. I'm mad.  You're mad.'
`How do you know I'm mad?' said Alice.
`You must be,' said the Cat, `or you wouldn't have come here.'

    Hi.

Are you really autistic or just an ass burger? I identify with that spectrum myself. I've had mine own internal struggles with my sense of frustration, especially with what I see as willful ignorance. When I'm proven wrong (as happens) I generally suck it up though. I'd rather be corrected than be allowed to persist in error . . .

I haven't been banned out of here, and I've been here about a year or so; so I expect you'll find this place a congenial home.

Why the fuck to North Americans pronounce it like that?

`But I don't want to go among mad people,' Alice remarked.
`Oh, you can't help that,' said the Cat: `we're all mad here. I'm mad.  You're mad.'

Why, how do you pronounce it?

    Asperger, or aspreger's.

`But I don't want to go among mad people,' Alice remarked.
`Oh, you can't help that,' said the Cat: `we're all mad here. I'm mad.  You're mad.'

    Asperger, or aspreger's.

Well, when I say Aspergers, it comes out a lot like previously described. I suppose it is an accent thing.

Also, may I assume you're a fellow trekkie?

Whenever I've pronounced it in a none ridiculous way in the company of Americans they have pronounced it the same as me.

`But I don't want to go among mad people,' Alice remarked.
`Oh, you can't help that,' said the Cat: `we're all mad here. I'm mad.  You're mad.'

Well, then I just don´t know. Luckily I have offended no one with my pronunciation.

Oops. Should have said hello. None of the above posts in this thread were making fun of you. I suppose you might have trouble understanding that if you have autism.

By the way, never define yourself by your condition. You aren't "autistic". You have autism.

     Reply #21 - November 15, 2015, 01:45 AM

I am autistic. It is not a disease, but a neurology. I am female. Not I have femalism. One is born that way.

This is a very important point that was brought up a lot in my psychology & related classes. People have diseases, but those don't (or shouldn't) define who they are.

I am afraid that the autistic community would be very offended to hear that they were diseased.

    Autism isn't a disease.

`Oh, you can't help that,' said the Cat: `we're all mad here. I'm mad.  You're mad.'

I would call it a neurological type - though across a spectrum of that type.

Depends on how you define a disease, probably.

Really. How do you define it?

`But I don't want to go among mad people,' Alice remarked.
`Oh, you can't help that,' said the Cat: `we're all mad here. I'm mad.  You're mad.'
`How do you know I'm mad?' said Alice.

Or it depends upon the autonomy of a population that prefers self-advocacy over any other option.
