And apparently not a bad thing at that.

`But I don't want to go among mad people,' Alice remarked.
`Oh, you can't help that,' said the Cat: `we're all mad here. I'm mad.  You're mad.'
`How do you know I'm mad?' said Alice.
`You must be,' said the Cat, `or you wouldn't have come here.'

But he's basically telling people who question the existence of God to submit nonetheless. How is that a good thing?

Don't worry, Absurdist - he can say what he likes - the important thing he recognises it as acceptable to be an Agnostic Muslim.

I guarantee that there are many... many... many... Muslims who were just waiting for that option to be available. Where they go with it will not be under anyone's control.

    That's definitely a possibility.

Do you know who that guy is? And how influential he is?

    Hassan.

I hope this new wave will get so big that it will force the literalist to change their ways - else they lose membership.

I can't tell you just how much I have waited for this to become mainstream.

Best of luck, you are a good person. Hope it goes well  Afro

He is a Canadian Usama Hasan - so I'm told.

I have heard and seen (on YouTube) him before. I think he has a good following amongst the more sane and rational-minded Muslims - of which there are a growing number these days.

Hes a Toronto imam.  His following is mainly local toronto people.

He does do khutbahs and speaking gigs at mainstream sunni mosques in the Toronto area however I don`t think most masjid goers at his khutbah know how liberal he actually is.

But he has a certain level of respect among some of the more relaxed muslim imams so theres that.

You can be Hassan`s sidekick in promoting this agnostic muslim thing.

Just grow back your long beard and brush up your khutbah speaking skills.

I love Hassan and fully support people identifying as agnostic Muslims, but I’m not comfortable identifying as any sort of Muslim myself, since I don’t feel that I am one. I take things from Islam, just as I take things from lots of other sources. Islam is also a huge part of my heritage and has contributed a great deal to the person I am today. But ultimately, rather than empowering me, I find that Islam fundamentally drains me. Thinking about it drains me. Trying to make convoluted sense of it drains me. My relationship with it is best described as “ex” or possibly even “post.”

I’m no longer angry with it. It is what it is. A movement among many humanity has seen. I admittedly admire many things about it, especially the way that it empowered the earliest Muslim communities in Arabia and the earliest African American Muslim communities here in the states. For me, though, I find that it’s a stage of development I’m better off moving beyond if I’m going to continue growing. And the label “Post-Islamic Agnostic Human” just doesn’t have the same ring to it.

Makes sense.  Other than the big climactic "coming out"  I'm pretty much moving on from islam completely as well on a more personal level.

He does a minor lecture circuit around Canada although not in many official capacities. He also is part of the TV show "Let the Quran Speak". I watch him once and while late at night. His show is buried by the dominance of Christian's shows on most channels but has far more moderate views in comparison to a few shows.

He confuses a number of terms in his explanation. He has an odd view of agnostic and confuses it with apatheist.

I was happy that he was understanding of why one might have doubts in a higher power... but I wasn't so satisfied with that final line which was just a repeat on Pascal's wager.

"Pascal argues that a rational person should live as though God exists and seek to believe in God. If God does not actually exist, such a person will have only a finite loss (some pleasures, luxury, etc.), whereas they stand to receive infinite gains (as represented by eternity in Heaven) and avoid infinite losses". Is this sheikh from Canada because I swear I've seen him before. Maybe it was at that RIS (Reviving The Islamic Spirit) event I attended in 2012.

Funny thing about that event, hijabi women of all ages 20-60 were going gaga over this musician Sami Yusuf when he performed on stage.

I remember Dr. Shabir Ally.. The Guyanese Imam (woot woot)

He's always stayed away from the sufi/salafi/shia debating scenes, and never was a sell-out for emotional lectures. That's one good thing about him.

Of course he never made that much sense to me before, but it's a great start to open the doors for more rational-minded muslims.

"If you don't like your religion's fundamentalists, then maybe there's something wrong with your religion's fundamentals."
"Demanding blind respect but not offering any respect in reciprocation is laughable."
"Let all the people in all the worlds be in peace."

Hassan giving yourself a religious identity when you don't believe in the religion helps preserve religions dominance in society.

WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO HELP PERPETUATE RELIGION ?  Huh?

    ^ Nah.

Anyway, Hassan, I haven't been able to leave work in months so I brought MOwtQ to the lab with me. My coworkers are on the lookout for my supervisor to warn me if they approach because they're all sick of hearing me cry about needing to get this thing done. This is a lab team effort.
