    There's at least one good news story today as the Supreme Court rules that same-sex marriage is a constitutional right.

    From the New York Times:

    In a long-sought victory for the gay rights movement, the Supreme Court ruled on Friday that the Constitution guarantees a right to same-sex marriage.

    Justice Anthony M. Kennedy wrote the majority opinion in the 5 to 4 decision. He was joined by the court’s four more liberal justices.

    The decision, the culmination of decades of litigation and activism, came against the backdrop of fast-moving changes in public opinion, with polls indicating that most Americans now approve of same-sex marriage.

    Justice Kennedy said gay and lesbian couples had a fundamental right to marry.

    “No union is more profound than marriage, for it embodies the highest ideals of love, fidelity, devotion, sacrifice, and family,” he wrote. “In forming a marital union, two people become something greater than once they were.”
       
    “It would misunderstand these men and women to say they disrespect the idea of marriage,” Justice Kennedy said of the couples challenging state bans on same-sex marriage. “Their plea is that they do respect it, respect it so deeply that they seek to find its fulfillment for themselves. Their hope is not to be condemned to live in loneliness, excluded from one of civilization’s oldest institutions. They ask for equal dignity in the eyes of the law. The Constitution grants them that right.”

    When different (Red) states lost a series of court battles all the way to the SCOTUS that just ate taxpayers money. Also the so-called leading nation of the world was not keeping up it's facade when Ireland beats them to the punch.

    The election year is going to be hilarious. Already politicians are saying their religion trumps the constitution all while running for the office which has the duty and oath to uphold the constitution. /popcorn

    It's a beautiful decision.

    For the person above, gay marriage was already legal in 37 out of 50 states, so most Americans had long come around to supporting it ... quite a change over even just 10 years ago.

    That is hilarious. The sad thing is most nations which still ban same-sex marriage are those these fundamental Christians hate just as much; Russia, Muslim nations, China and other 3rd world nations.

    The Mexicans will probably legalise it too in the near future, where then?  Uganda maybe - US christian fundies have done alot to interfere in Uganda's laws on homosexuality, so it would be fitting if they ended up having to live there.
