In Egypt, by the age of 15-17 its at 61 percent, compared to 90% for the ages 15-49.
    Quote
The number of younger people who favour and practice female genital mutilation (FGM) is declining in Egypt, according to the Demographic Health Survey (DHS) conducted in 2014.
    r
The WHO defines FGM as ?all procedures involving partial or total removal of the external female genitalia or other injury to the female genital organs for non-medical reasons.?

The survey shows the total percentage of married females who have experienced FGM aged between 15 and 49 reaches a whopping 90 percent, but the percentage aged 15 to 17 is 61 percent, a decline of 13 percent compared with surveys conducted in 2008.

    Declline in Somalia

    Quote
The survey released by UNICEF and the governments of Somaliland and Puntland found that 25 percent of girls from the ages of 1 to 14 years old have undergone the practice, compared with 99 percent of women in those regions.

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/04/22/female-genital-mutilation-somalia_n_3134968.html

The article says that fgm is in decline in 2/3 regional governments in Somalia , though it doesn't specify and compare differences between different years. It would be a significant drop if it was 25% by 14 year as it would mean that unlikely to increase.

Brilliant news, well done Egypt and Somalia. Only if wanted by the individual should unnecessary surgery take place, or only if vitally medically needed!

Nigeria has just banned it too! Hope it impacts on the diasporas here too!

On a related note this case in the States of a 4 yr old of divorced parents who's father is trying to force his ex-wife to circumcise her son when she doesn't agree with it and the son doesn't want it really upsets me.

I think that there has been a decline in Somali regions that have been relatively peaceful during the civil war as 50% undergo fgm by age 7.But in the case of those 2 Somali regions, they're not comparing the age group 1-14 to another time frame, which would show exactly how much the decline is in those regions.

`But I don't want to go among mad people,' Alice remarked.
`Oh, you can't help that,' said the Cat: `we're all mad here. I'm mad.  You're mad.'
`How do you know I'm mad?' said Alice.
`You must be,' said the Cat, `or you wouldn't have come here.'
