     OP - January 26, 2015, 02:30 PM

    Pakistani culture.

What I hate most would probably be the shit talking. For example, if you did something 'non-cultural' (move out / have a bf / etc) you'd be the talk in the community forever and portrayed as something bad.

    Bad news is:
You cannot make people like, love, understand, validate,
accept, or be nice to you. You can't control them either.
    Good news is:
    It doesn't matter.

That's present in most cultures. What's worse is giving a shit. What I hate about both of my cultures is the mysogynistic practices and sexist double standards.
It's fine if my brother sleeps around, drinks, or behaves however he pleases without becoming a social pariah or facing other harsh consequences. If I ever commit a serious sin or fail to uphold my responsibilities, I would be shipped off to my parent's homeland to get married. Although that could happen without doing a thing.
I'm sure there are things that I'm able to get away with that men cannot.

The honour/shame culture which perpetuates abuse, the double standards when it comes to gender issues, the notion that everything bad in society is because people do not follow the word of Allah, or follow Muhammad as their role model etc. In a nutshell I loath the culture I grew up in because of religion and how every aspect of life revolves around it.

Political correctness taken to extremes, much of which is mentioned on CEMB in regards to the leftist Guardian/BBC response to islamophobia.

`But I don't want to go among mad people,' Alice remarked.
`Oh, you can't help that,' said the Cat: `we're all mad here. I'm mad.  You're mad.'
`How do you know I'm mad?' said Alice.
`You must be,' said the Cat, `or you wouldn't have come here.'

Kuwait culture. hmmm the list is quite long, where should I start?

    -The self entitlement
    -the racism
-the complete absence of manners when dealing with a non-kuwaiti while behaving like fucking angels with others
-the "you had gay sex? well as long as you were top, you're fine"
-"alcohol? astagfurallah!! bartender, may I have another?"
-their unyielding submission (islam) to louis vutton.
-being overall spoilt and not having a clue of real life. I spent 20 minutes one time explaining to a 20 something supposedly fully adult retard how to change a tire, even gave him my jack only for him to go bring an indian mechanic to change it for him.
-"A crime happened in kuwait?! must've been a non-kuwaiti for sure!"

I could keep going but I'll stop at this.

Oh boy, coming from a Middle Eastern family:

    - The sexism: Women are expected to be obedient and never talk back to their husbands.

    - Obsession with marriage: As soon as a girl hits puberty they begin mentioning her as the "bride". Like when I was 15 and visiting family and friends in the Middle East, people would welcome me as the little "bride" and asking my parents if I am ready to be given away (Come ask for my hand in marriage to their son that I have never met)
A girls main purpose is to serve her husband and be a good housewife. There's even an Arab saying that says "Take a Middle Eastern wife and live a happy life". Because we're taught as little that we should always be obedient. Specially with retarded Middle Eastern Ramadan tv shows like "Bab El Hara" that tries to revive these outdated cave man values.

    - The racism: I told my mother once that I wouldn't mind marrying an African man, where she responded that she would never allow that. When I told her she couldn't stop it and that the Qur'an says "we made you into tribes so that you may recognize each other" she responded: Fine, but I won't kiss your children. I was like  wacko idiot2

And many many other things. Sigh.

well on those words What do you hate most about your culture? , The BBC Today news says Saudi men call for 'no girls on Twitter'

    Quote
Thousands of Saudi men are trying to drive women off Twitter - but the effort seems to have backfired.

Gender segregation is the norm in Saudi Arabia, and it appears some people want that to extend to social media networks too. An Arabic hashtag which translates as "We don't want girls on Twitter" was mentioned almost 400,000 times over the weekend. Its origins are unclear - BBC Trending couldn't locate the first tweet using the tag.

But it didn't quite go as those behind it seemed to have intended - in fact many of those who joined in seemed to be against the segregation of the sexes online. Women took to tweeting jokes decrying the tag, and some men pitched in as well.

"Why? What have we done?" cried one user with mocking emojis.

"This is the person who started the hashtag," tweeted another, above a picture of a goat.

One user pointed out a maxim heeded by advert writers and nightclub owners the world over. "If there were no girls on twitter," said @arts121, "no man will sign up."

Some women also started a hashtag "We don't want men on Twitter" in retaliation - but it only gathered around 1,500 tweets.

well this is one response from women of Saudi Arabia

User @Hawazen__Q8 tweeted this photo along with fighting words: "Show me the man who started this hashtag!"

and the next one is this one

I have never felt a strong affinity for any particular culture. I didn't grow up inside Orthodox Judaism (although I later became Orthodox), which has infinitely more of a cultural identity than the weird cultist shit my parents believed. Ever since I started to read, I'd been fascinated by India, and read ever book I could about India. Not really sure why. There were always Indian people coming and going from my life, but none of them really stuck around long enough to become significant to me until my early 20s.

But even before that, I considered myself a trans-racial Indian. I can speak with a perfect, if a little heavy, stereotypical Indian accent. When I use it, I somehow instinctively use new-immigrant Indian syntax. "How you are doing?" instead of "How are you doing?" for example. I enjoy Indian food, movies, and just everything. I used to break into my Indian accent whenever I was nervous, but I've stopped that now, thankfully.

Mainstream American culture has never appealed to me; when I was younger I certainly despised the moral decadence and hypocrisy of Americans. "Bible Belt" states have a church and a porn shop on every corner, and it's the only place I've ever seen a chain of sex toy/porn shops (and they advertised on full-size highway billboards). Fuck, a church in Mississippi recently decided to hold its services inside a bar. I bet in a few years they'll open a church inside a strip club.

One of my grandmothers moved to Las Vegas when I was 7, so I went out every couple of years to spend a week with her, and the whole culture of Las Vegas disgusted me. Slot machines in every building, from the gas station to the grocery store. The petrol pumps had tiny TV screens so you could play the lotto while you filled your tank. There was not one building on the Las Vegas strip you could go in for any purpose without having to walk through a casino full of drunk men and scantily clad women taking money from those men. If you wanted to go to a show, a concert, a bowling alley, a hotel room, a gift shop, anything, you had to walk through the casino to get there.

And then there's the glorification of violence against anyone who isn't a WASP (white anglo-saxon protestant). The justice system is a joke, and everyone knows it. If you're rich or white, you're getting out with a slap on the wrist; if you're black, you're going to serve a long sentence. If you kill a black man, you'll probably be cleared of charges because he was probably looking at you funny. A member of the KKK can get recognized by the state for his service to the community. And if you're not from the English speaking world? Your life has no value. Torture, bombing civilians with drones, overthrowing governments to make inroads for financial exploitation, setting up puppet governments, yeah, I don't want to identify myself with any part of that.

I haven't really thought about who I identify with culturally these days. Probably no one.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for I have a sonic screwdriver, a tricorder, and a Type 2 phaser.

I DESPISE South Asian (desi) culture. Everything about it.

First of all, the materialism. In this culture, it's ALL about what car, house, etc you have, how much money you earn. Status is everything in this culture.

The competitiveness. In desi culture, the elders of each household try their absolute best to compete with one another. This relates to the materialism I mentioned above, but not only that, if this son/daughter isn't following tradition to the absolute letter that's a cross in each household's box at family gatherings.

On that note, children are often used as instruments in this competition, often pushed beyond their limits to get good grades, go to university etc, simply so that the parents can boast that ''my son/daughter is a Doctor/Lawyer/Accountant/Engineer etc''

The unwillingness to mingle with other cultures. One of my mum's cousins was pretty much kicked out for marrying a white muslim convert. While my parents were from two separate communities, they were both south asian and my mum had already had one failed marriage so there was already much pressure on her to be married.

I can safely say I hate this culture even more than Islam.

Oh god yes! If I had a penny for every time my father asked ''What will people think?'' I would be Bill Gates.

And one problem this causes is that you must eat several of EVERYTHING, because otherwise the auntie who cooked it will demand to know what you have against her cooking and will make a show of forcing you to eat her food to prove you do like it. And then after you are force fed for however long, they ask you why you are getting so fat, and how you expect to get married if you keep gaining weight like a pig. And you can't say "it's because you just made me eat like two cups of sauce that was at least 40% oil and two cups of rice; yes there were only three one inch pieces of goat in there, but the sauce is like a million calories."

And my body shape just isn't desi. I don't know where desi fat goes, but it seems to be through a wormhole or something; but mine is all on my butt and stomach. Maybe there's an alternate universe where there are only like a million desi people, but they all weigh two tonnes because they for some reason carry all the weight of all the desi people in our universe. Or a far more likely explanation is that desi people have the gut bacteria needed to break down all that sauce, and I, who was born to Ashkenazi Jewish people who for some reason eschew spices with flavor, do not have that gut bacteria. (Yes, it has been shown that gut bacteria is different by region with European poop being significantly less adapted to digesting food that is actually good for you, and the most effective way of getting gut bacteria from a region where theirs is healthier than yours is the rather disgusting poop-to-mouth transplant method. So conceivably sometime soon there may be a fad in the west where people are buying cheap poop pills from third world countries.)
