Shaimaa Al-Sabagh a 32-year-old socialist activist was shot dead on the eve of the fourth anniversary of Egypt’s January 25 revolution just meters away from Tahrir Square.

Shaimaa and dozens of members of the Socialist Popular Alliance Party (SPAP) had gathered at Talaat Harb with the aim of laying flowers at Tahrir Square, once the symbol of the revolution that attracted millions of youth chanting for bread, liberty and freedom. While social media users and activists have blamed police forces for firing birdshot at Shaimaa, Egypt’s Forensic Authority said this could not be verified.

According to Hisham Abdel Hamid, the spokesperson of the Forensic Authority, Shaimaa was shot from eight meters from behind in her back. The spokesperson added that this birdshot is ‘very common’ and is used by ‘many people,’ and that the Forensic Authority cannot confirm who fired the shots.

And News from BBC says Egypt: At least 10 killed in protests marking uprising

    Quote
At least 10 people have been killed in clashes between police and protesters in eastern Cairo, officials said. One policeman was among the dead and dozens of protesters were also injured, health officials confirmed.

The clashes follow the death of an activist in a march in Cairo on Saturday. The protests were staged to mark the fourth anniversary of Egypt's 2011 uprising, which toppled long-time leader Hosni Mubarak.

Security in major cities was tightened ahead of the anniversary, and key locations in Cairo were blocked off. Dozens of people were killed in similar protests last year. The police officer was killed during protests in Cairo, the interior ministry said, while protesters were killed in Cairo and the northern city of Alexandria.

Police said two militants were also killed as they tried to plant an explosive device in the Nile Delta. On Saturday, activist Shaimaa al-Sabbagh was shot dead during a march by the socialist Popular Alliance party in central Cairo.

The party blamed police for her death. She was buried amid angry scenes in the northern city of Alexandria on Sunday. Prosecutors have launched an investigation into her death. Since ousting the elected president Mohammed Morsi in July 2013, the new Egyptian authorities have cracked down on political dissent.

Supporters and mourners  of Shaimaa al-Sabbagh  in Alexandria after she was shot during a march on Saturday.. Hope this tragedy will not go back to Islamist verse regime ...but people will fight for their political rights Out of Islamic parties and that brothelhood of Egypt..

Not rising up against Al Sisi would render the two previous revolutions meaningless. Fascism does seem to have many faces in Egypt, and I worry that there will be some Brotherhood-sympathizers who'd try to argue that Muhammed Morsi wasn't one of them and that his dismissal was illegitimate.

Feel sorry for the Egyptians. Obedience didn't work, as it never does. Now it seems revolution doesn't either.

Egypt launches massive security crackdown on 2011 uprising anniversary, clashes leave 13 dead

CAIRO (AP) — Supporters of Egypt's ousted Islamist President fought street battles with police in Cairo and other cities on Sunday, the fourth anniversary of the country's 2011 uprising, as clashes left 13 people dead and dozens injured. Another two people died when an explosive device they were planting under a high-voltage tower in the Nile Delta exploded prematurely, security officials said.

    Ahh I really sympathise Egypt.
Military rule / dictatorship before 2011 revolution.
The 2011 revolution was hijacked by MostLame Brotherhood.
The 2013 revolution was hijacked by another military rule.

Rising up against Al Sisi is stupid also. It won't bring democracy for sure.

What else West should/can support? What else will be better there, than a military regime, really?

On the other hand, shooting liberal socialists is idiotic at least, from the regime perspective as well. These peoples don't do much trouble and let them have their way a little bit, will do only good for Al Sisi regime propaganda. At least arrest them for a couple of days. Well a regime is a regime, so hoping for rationality is to much I suppose...

Hope liberals will learn from this and stay safe home. There is no much they can to there. Sad buth truth...

When it comes to Sharia, there's alot of similarities between Sisi/military and the Muslim Brotherhood. The mistake people make is that they believe that Egypt is secular. Egypt has all the Sharia that the Muslim Brotherhood would be satisified with. The choice is between a strong military government that will apply Islamic law and a weak civil government under an autocratic religious group, with Islamic law. The main difference is that if Sisi stays, support for Sharia will likely remain the same, while the failure of the Muslim Brotherhood would risk undermining support for Sharia.

Killing of Protester Prompts Rare Criticism From Egyptian State Newspaper

    Quote
The killing of Shaimaa al-Sabbagh, a peaceful protester whose body was riddled with shotgun pellets on Saturday in Cairo, was condemned in an unusually frank editorial published Monday on the front page of Al Ahram, the flagship state newspaper in Egypt, and signed by its chairman, Ahmed Sayed el-Naggar.

Ms. Sabbagh was shot in front of witnesses and the cameras of several journalists when police officers suddenly fired at marchers carrying flowers to Tahrir Square to mark the fourth anniversary of Egypt’s Arab Spring uprising. Images of the attack on the protest, and of Ms. Sabbagh’s colleagues trying to evade arrest to save her, reverberated online, transforming the 32-year-old mother’s death into a new symbol of police impunity.

    Quote
The burden of ensuring that justice is served by prosecuting Ms. Sabbagh’s killer, Mr. Naggar added, “rests on the shoulders” of President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, who was elected to protect Egyptians “from the abuse of power.”

It sounds unlikely he'll be convicted though.

Prosecutor General Hesham Barakat referred a Central Security Forces police officer to criminal prosecution after he was charged with “beating to death” activist Shaimaa al-Sabbagh, state television reported on Tuesday.

Sabbagh was killed during a peaceful march in downtown Cairo on the eve of the fourth anniversary of the January 25 Revolution.

Since the officer was referred to trial for “beating leading to death,” he could be found innocent on procedural grounds, Yasmine Hossam al-Din, a lawyer following the investigations into Sabbagh’s death, told Mada Masr.

Hossam al-Din explained, “this charge is inconsistent with the technical evidence and the autopsy report, which show that Sabbagh was killed by a direct gunshot wound and was not beaten.”

The New York based Human Rights watch released a report following Sabbagh’s death, in which they used video evidence along with four eyewitness testimonies to reconstruct events.

According to HRW, “the evidence clearly shows a uniformed police officer apparently directing a masked man, who fires a shotgun toward a group of about two dozen peaceful protesters whom police were dispersing from Talaat Harb Square. Shaimaa al-Sabbagh, 32, is seen immediately falling to the ground following the shot. She died later from what medical authorities described as ‘Birdshot injuries’.”

The Forensic Medical Authority released an autopsy report showing that she was killed by Birdshot, sustaining wounds in the back that punctured her lungs and heart.

Hossam al-Din said, “there should have been two options: either he should have been charged with involuntary manslaughter and in that case it should be proven that the officer hit the victim without targeting her, or he should have been charged with murder with intent and then evidence should show he targeted her deliberately.”

Shaimaa el-Sabbagh  Was Too Thin  that is why  Died in Shooting

    Quote
On Saturday, though, the spokesman for the Medical Forensics Authority said in a television interview that Ms. Sabbagh, 31, would not have died had she not been so slender.

“Shaimaa el-Sabbagh, according to science, should not have died,” the spokesman, Hisham Abdel Hamid, said, calling it “a very rare case.”

“Her body was like skin over bone, as they say,” he said. “She was very thin. She did not have any percentage of fat. So the small pellets penetrated very easily, and four or five out of all the pellets that penetrated her body — these four or five pellets were able to penetrate her heart and lungs, and these are the ones that caused her death.”

That is the theory of IDIOTS in Egypt under Sisi..

So she died cause she wasn't 'traditional build' enough to resist perfectly okay use of firearms and not due to being shot at? Right ... ? I will remember that when I am wanting to scare a slender person, as well as escalating use of firearms if someone is fat!
