Sorry if this is explained elsewhere already.

Why do we have a different amount of stars next to our usernames?

I think you automatically get five if you signed up as an ex-Muslim, and four as a normal member. After a certain amount of posts, I believe you become pub regulars if you're a normal member, and then there will be five stars next to your name.

    Number of posts.

`But I don't want to go among mad people,' Alice remarked.
`Oh, you can't help that,' said the Cat: `we're all mad here. I'm mad.  You're mad.'
`How do you know I'm mad?' said Alice.
`You must be,' said the Cat, `or you wouldn't have come here.'

    And racial/religious discrimination apparently.

Ok seriously, it's basically just a quick visual indication of who the new bods are. Originally the software came set up so that new arrivals only got one star (poor things) and people with more posts got 2, 3 4 or 5 depending on post count. I thought this was a bit poxy (sorta too military for my liking) so changed it so new bods got 4 and everyone else got 5. Nobody else grumbled, so it stayed that way.

Well IIRC Berbs grumbled slightly coz she kinda liked the superiority of her extra stars, but I don't think she was all that serious. Wink

TBH I would have been happy to ditch the stars entirely.

ETA: Oh and then I made sparkly stars for Berbs, just for fun. grin12

It's the number of stars that need to be thrown at you to chase away the jinns that inhabit your brain, making you not like islam.

I quite like the idea of the one to five star thing.

    Just leads to rep-whoring.

It's an easy way to see how much a member has contributed to the forum, would be interesting that's all, being able to see who is a veteran and who is a Noob. Or a rep system as descent mentioned, that would also be good.

Post count (and joining date) already do the same thing. IMO. That's why the basic member details are available in a drop menu off their name. Wink

Yea true, but then you could argue why have stars at all then. If we are going to have stars, let's have one to five I say. By the way, How many posts qualifies as a 5 star member?

     Reply #18 - December 28, 2014, 10:26 PM

Well I would personally be happy to not have stars at all, apart from the POTM and JOTM awards thingies (and possibly staff badges).

I think it's 800 posts for 5 stars. Dunno offhand.

My question is not related to the stars, but I made something wrong when I signed in to this forum, because at your profiles it's says "Ex-Muslim" under your nickname. Under my nickname it just says "Member". Can I change this?

I like being a pub regular instead of an Ex-Muslim Tongue

My mind runs, I can never catch it even if I get a head start.
