The most famous openly atheist Egyptia @AhmedHarqan and his pregnant wife, Saly Harqan, faced an assassination attempt this morning. When they went to the police station to report it, they were arrested, and their phones were shut down. Neither of them can be reached at the moment.
The Egyptian Attorney General has ordered an investigation of Ahmed Harqan on charges of blasphemy/contempt of religion. Harqan, a former ultra-conservative Salafist, appeared on several Egyptian talk shows to speak about non-religious rights. Watch BBC interview him in the video below. Please spread the word to raise awareness and demand that the Egyptian government ‪#‎FreeAhmedHarqan‬ and his pregnant wife.

So much for "no compulsion in religion".

Is there any link to the source in English? I did not find anything on google.

Your link at the bottom is broken.

    Thanks. Link fixed.

Nothing yet but ExMNA has posted it on their Facebook without source.

    EDIT:
Facebook post from Maher Gabra, apparently a guy in Alexandria, the couple's hometown:

Later, we knew that Ahmed was accused of blasphemy. We can not reach any of them at the moment. It is important to mention that Saly is pregnant!

Freedom to Ahmed Harqan campaign Facebook page.

Change.org petition to free Ahmed Harqan, his pregnant wife Saly Harqan and their friend Karim Jimy.

    Quote
    URGENT:

on the 25th of October 2014, in a nice street in Alexandria Egypt, a young man and his pregnant wife “Ahmad Husain Al-Harkan & sally” encountered a grim attempt of assassination.

Al-Harkan is an Egyptian activist and atheist, who has spent a generous portion of his life as a Salafi “Muslim fundamentalist”, but his journey through Islam led him to renounce his religion. Mr. Al-Harkan was a devout Muslim and well versed in Islam. He was educated by Ahmed Al-Burhami a very celebrated Islamic scholar in Egypt.

The transformation took its toll on Ahmad Al-Harkan and led him to burn all of his religious certificates and start his education from scratch.

Since then Al-Harkan made several guest appearances in various talk shows aimed at the uprising of atheists in the Arab world and Egypt, it’s fair to say that his background in Islamic studies made him a serious adversary in debates.

In evening of the 25th of October he was attacked by a group of people trying to kill him and his wife. He managed to flee the scene with his wife after having some injuries and went to the “Alhanafie–Alajlany” police station to report the incident.

Much to his and our surprise, he and his wife were fruther assaulted by police "officers" at the station his friend Kareem who escorted them suffered the same abuse. They are now all in jail charged with heresy “Insulting religion” even the lawyer was humiliated and kicked out if the police station.

Al-Harkan, his Pregnant wife Sally and their friend Kareem are still in the “Al_Dakhela” police station waiting to be transferred to public Prosecutor's office to be charged with the crime of free thought and expression under the pretension of “disrespecting religion”.

Let the world know about Ahmad Husain Al-Harkan, his pregnant wife and his friend Kareem.

When it comes to apostasy, it doesn't matter whether Sisi or Muslim Brotherhood is in power. The only difference is that it would discredit the Muslim Brotherhoods democratic credentials.

All three have apparently been released. according to the Facebook campaign page.

No news on if charges are upheld.

    Ahmed Harqan

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i58QoLs2XWg

That video proves again and again THAT READING QURAN WILL PUSH PEOPLE OUT OF SALAFI/WAHABI ISLAM.,  if not Islam   So I say to all so-called Islamic nations  teach Quran in schools for 10th to 12th grade kids  along with other religious texts And ask them to write a review article on some suarhs..

Anyways., there are 1000s of Muslim  atheists in Egypt...

Do not let silence become your legacy.. Question everything
I renounced my faith to become a kafir,
the beloved betrayed me and turned in to  a Muslim

    Dr.  Noha Mahmoud Salem

    Quote
..........Noha Mahmoud Salem, 53, describes herself as a former "fanatic" and Salafi. She began wearing the niqab, or veil, at the age of 21. At 24, she married a conservative Muslim and they had three boys together. But around the age of 30 she began having doubts about religion, and she stopped praying.

Both Noha and her husband thought she might have a psychological problem. She went to see specialists who told her she was suffering from obsessive compulsive disorder and needed strong medication. The medication didn't seem to help, and she was still questioning her faith, so she was given stronger and more harmful drugs. She became like a zombie, she said.

"It stopped my thinking and I was afraid that some damage had been done to my brain," she recalled. "When I stopped the medication, my brain gradually recovered."

But her questioning of religion continued. Noha finally got divorced from her husband in 2007, after nearly 25 years of marriage. She does not, however, describe herself as an atheist. "It is better to say I am a 'Muslim' but 'an intellectual Muslim,'" she said, "because when I say 'I am a Muslim', people will begin to hear me. Otherwise they will be my enemies."

Yet she cannot get her three sons to listen to her. Her relationship with them is a big source of anguish. She describes them as Salafis. They treat her harshly, and warn her that she is going to hell; meanwhile, she tells them there is no hell.

"They always tell me that I am psychologically troubled," she says. A few months ago, Noha got a certificate from a psychologist in Alexandria proving that she is mentally well. What did her family say? "No, the doctor is wrong; he didn't give you the right diagnosis."".

Eventually this trickle will become a tide and they won't be able to arrest and intimidate everyone.
