    Comedian and TV host Joan Rivers has died, her daughter has said.

    Rivers, 81, had been on life support in Mount Sinai Hospital since having a cardiac arrest in New York last week.

    In a statement, her daughter Melissa said she died surrounded by family and friends, and she thanked hospital staff for their "amazing care".

    The comedian, best known for her lacerating wit, stopped breathing during a procedure on her vocal chords at an outpatient clinic last Thursday.

    "My mother's greatest joy in life was to make people laugh," said Melissa Rivers.

    "Although that is difficult to do right now, I know her final wish would be that we return to laughing soon."

    Sad. She is certainly on the short list of truly great American comedians.

    Sad indeed.
    I watched a few of her specials she was one of my favourite female comedians.

    really another plastic surgery.. ?  I think people in America specifically in that Hollywood  have serious problem of gracefully aging..



    Look at her she is from Pakistan and she is older than  Joan Rivers  .. see how happy and how healthy  she looks  with very little money in her home..

    She certainly did leave her most terrible remarks for the end. I'd bet some people feel pretty vindicated that her death came right on the heels of that comment about the Palestinians deserving what they got.

    Lua  my suggestion to you is "Do not give too much importance  to those  so called celebrities who had  too many face lifts, ass lifts  to hide their age"   But she is a Racist and Jewish..  off course she also made some butt jokes against Jewish festivals/people..

    I don't understand what's so sad. 81 is about the average human lifespan. Not to mention she had a comfortable life as a rich celebrity.

    Yap..... there is nothing sad about it.,

    The only sad thing was apparently she was healthy and went for some  operation and died in Hospital., in other words it was an operation/biopsy /anesthetic gone wrong..

    Grin Way ahead of you, Yeezevee. I tend not to know a single thing about celebrities unless they are doing or saying something pertinent to my interests. It makes it really hard to win the pink pie piece in Trivial Pursuit...

    She was one of the greatest and most influential American comedians that ever lived. That alone, the fact that there will be no more original Joan Rivers material, is something of a tragedy to those who appreciated it.

    She had the same material for years, when I watched her BBC show in the early 80s she still used the same material now. Apart from throwing some Anti Muslim, Palestinian crap in.

    Joan Rivers finally made them laugh in Palestine. She died.
