I thought that was actually a pretty smart thing to put in there, unless I'm reading into it too much. It's kind of saying yeah, okay, maybe he's going to mess up and you might not agree with everything he says or does, but that doesn't make him any less of the caliph, and it doesn't mean you should stop supporting him. It means you're kind of responsible, too, and you have to try harder to make this relationship work. It's your job to stick with him no matter what.
