     Cheesy It's not the best out there but it's easy drinking. When money's tight and I fancy a few beers, it's one of the ones I may go for. By no means the best out there but definitely falls into the "easy drinking" category.

    Beer doesn't have to be an overwhelming, over-hopped presence, but it should never be an absence. And UK Bud is just that.

    Budvar on the other hand is proof that industrial beer can be made with care and pride.

    Merlot is cheap and drinkable.

    I personally go for a bordeaux ~£10 a bottle or so, corked of course.

    If you go to your liquor store and ask for French and Italian reds, and specify a price range, you'll get some decent recommendations. Spanish and South African reds are good, too. I've yet to try Lebanese wine. Anyone have any experience?

    Stay away from English wines, they (more than not) taste like mouldy bananas. Hideously sweet.

    I don't drink white wine.

    On topic.

    Spitfire Kentish ale, Hobgoblin, London Pride, and Oxford Gold are the ales I go for.

    Courage is dire. Would not recommend.

    Pilsners in the UK are pretty average and bloated but my god are they refreshing in Europe...

    Now here is a thread I feel I can add to  Smiley

    Wine - so many options out there I grew up thinking I didn't like red wine turns out I just don't like very dry reds (Cabernet Sauvignon, Bordeaux etc) and find the fruitier reds are far more drinkable (Chianti, Temparanillo & Sangiovese etc) . It's all down to what you like really I'm not much of a white wine fan. I've had some English wine that was drinkable but it was too dry for my taste.

    Beer - I rarely drink IPA as it tends to be the cheap and unexciting session beer here but I do enjoy a good bitter and there are so many to choose from over here I seem to like anything that Badger Brewery turn out. I do seem to edge towards the mid strength beers for taste but don't have the constitution for it sadly so have to limit consumption.

    How about Belgian beers they brew some amazing beers too?

    I'm on a student budget as well but I'm a social drinker so I rarely drink ( like once in a few months) anyways so when I do drink I usually pick a good one.

    I sometimes also drink beer to relax my nerves in social situations.

    I'm not addicted to alcohol and drink beer for the taste and not to get drunk so there is no point in me buying a cheap beer.

    Beer?  BEER?  ewwwww.

    This could be because I have only ever tried shitty beers I'm sure.  Beers alcoholics drink on street corners because they are cheap.....and disgusting.

    I may.....maybe....might....you never know...try a different type before I thoroughly condemn all beers. 

    Until I decide to give it that one more chance, I will still to my rums.  I love me some rum.

    I would say I will try some tonight, but tonight is Sake night though.  I don't like mixing alcohol anymore, as I have discovered I don't like puking on the street corner.

    That advert and many just like it, made the whole "Australians wouldn't give a Castlemaine four X for anything else" like a legendary logo.

    Also Carlsberg adverts, and Heineken adverts. Grow up hearing it, go into off license, see it, recognise the brand, remember the advert, sip beer and then think WTF is this shit.

    XXXX is fucking terrible. It's one of the worst of the crappy commercial beers, and that's saying something.  Look at it this way: if the only way they can get people to drink it is with a massive advertising campaign, there has to be something wrong with the shit. This is a good rule of thumb for beer. If they've never had to advertise it anywhere and they're still in business, it's probably worth drinking.

    Oh and if you really want to do yourself a favour, try this stuff. It's rich and complex and totally scrumptious. Sort of tastes like beer but feels like a good red wine.
