    Oddly enough, the Islam I was taught always said that masturbation was okay as it was a halal way to relieve sexual stress and not commit zina.
    I remember my parents had all these islamic books with rulings and I used to read them.

    It honestly wasn't until my mid twenties that I realized some Muslims thought jerking off was bad.

    I read that Doctors during that time actually prescribed masturbation, and performed masturbation on these women, as treatment for women who were diagnosed as "hysterical". But it wasn't "sexual". I'll have to go back and read up on that, it'kinda crazy.
