That time of year's about to happen again for some of us, although it's happened for others already; yes, Eid, in which the faithful commemorate*.. something**. I don't know what goes on where most of you are, but the Muslim community in which I grew up threw Eid 'parties'. I enclose the word in parentheses, as I never managed to make it to one that didn't have all the joy stripped out of it; if the word 'party' implies revelry, I certainly found none.
Perhaps I just didn't know the right people.
Be that as it may, this set me thinking: why not throw alternative Eid parties, and show the believers how it's done? As a yearly social event, this could be great fun; from a more prosaic point of view, it could be used to fund-raise, raise awareness of the ex-Muslim cause (such as it is), or even - whisper it - reach out to Muslims.
What do you think? Is there scope for this to happen at least regionally, if not on a city-by-city basis?
* I didn't think the word 'celebrate' was appropriate.
** A topic for another thread, perhaps.
I love this idea! haha!!
