     OP - July 18, 2012, 07:27 PM

I am so pumped about the Olympics. Is anyone else excited about it? Anyone got tickets? Any favourites you're gonna be keeping an eye out for? Anyone cynical about the whole thing? Share your thoughts.

Too fucking busy, and vice versa.

I don't even know what the big deal is.

I become a major expert in sports I know nothing about when the Olympics is on.

True story - stuff like Weightlifting is amazingly exciting sport when its on the Olympics.

Can't wait to see what Danny Boyle has cooked up for the opening ceremony, will be interesting to see what he's done to represent Britain.

Just hope the weather is good.

I kind of rotate from enthusiasm to outright disinterest earlier. All the hype was turning me off for the last few months before but now its close I'm kind of looking forward to it.

Only all the worlds greatest athletes in their physical prime assembled together for the greatest and most celebrated sporting competition on Earth.

Not all of the greatest athletes.

Most of the football teams wont be fielding their best players. And skateboarding is still not an olympic event. And snowboarding is only in the winter olympics, those are the only sports I really like so essentially I have no interest in it.

my brother's got two tickets for thursday 9th - this includes mens 200m final, mens 800m final, mens triple jump final (i think philip idowu should be challenging for gold?). he 'hasn't decided' who he's taking yet - it's either me or my younger brother. i could pull rank and be the one to go if i wanted  grin12 but i think i will let my younger brother go since he is more excited about the games (he was on the IT team for the bid, has held a torch blah blah blah).

yes looking forward to it though.  Smiley

I'm pretty much jealous of anyone who's got tickets. But your bro's tickets are gold. Have you thought about a more 'permanent' way of taking your little brother out of the equation?

I'll be cheering for Team GB obviously, but I'm most excited about seeing what Kohei Uchimura will do:

Japanese artistic gymnast. Certainly the best in the world right now. Some say the best ever and I'm inclined to agree. Probably right now in his prime, in the peak of physical condition, and potentially will show us something special at this years games that will be the new benchmark for gymnastic perfection. This guy just floors me with how amazing he is. What he does isn't even possible. I'm convinced there is some Matrix rulebending going on.

    What I'm interested in:

    - Athletics: 800m and more for track. Not at all into 100, 200 and 400m, and hurdles. Boring! Also all field competitions, but especially pole vault because since I was little it gave me dreams of flying!
    - Handball! <3 <3 <3
    - Volleyball

    - Cycling  Afro
    - Table tennis
    - 100m, 200m etc
    - Long distance running (I expect Kenya to win Gold, Silver and Bronze for most of them or there will be a government inquiry back home. grin12 )
    - Tennis, Football, swimming etc

I cannot wait for this to start
We are sending a group of 20 for the track and field events, I know it is not a lot but we have good chanced to medal in the Women's Javelin, Women's 800M, Mens Long Jump and men's 4 X400M and maybe a medal chance with LJ van zyl in the mens 400 hurdles.
our swimming team is also quite good, hopefully 3 or 4 medals in the pool, Cameron Van der Burgh in the 100M breaststroke (current world record holder) he will have strong competition from Phelps and and the Japanese guy Matsuda. We also have Chad le Clos that has been good all season in the 200M fly and he is doing another 5 events.

So it is gonna be fun next week for the opening, am I gonna attend tarawih or watch the opening ceremony? Sorry Allah but the olympics is more important Tongue

Well Muslims are supposed to squash idolatry and the Olympics was originally a Pagan ceremony.

It was banned by Emperor Theodosius II specifically for that reason.
