    Ince, I think I know what Quod was trying to say.

    "Phoenix" is found within mythology. In mythology, a phoenix is a creature which is the last of its kind. Therefore, the plural form of phoenix should be either (a) phoenix or (b) nonexistent.

    It's kind of weird talking about two or more things when we know that there only exists one thing.

    A mythology can still be internally consistent, so it can be subject to logic. Logic isn't a synonym for reality.

    What I'm saying is that logics concern validity whilst reality also requires soundness.

    Logics are supposed to tells us what is internally consistent, not what is externally consistent.

    The following is a valid and hence logical argument:

    1. If Qtian is a male then Qtian is a female

    2. Qtian is a male

    3. Therefore, Qtian is a female.

    It's valid as it adheres to Modus ponens, which is a rule of inference.

    However, it clearly isn't realistic so it's "unsound". It's unsound as one can easily object to the truth of the premises.

    You've misunderstood.

    What I'm saying is that a logical argument about reality means nothing unless the premises are also true. So your cute "Logic right there" statement is meaningless.

    I can object easily to your argument, making it unsound. A sound argument must necessarily be valid and the premises have to be true.

    For a valid argument, the premises don't have to be true.

    Logic primarily concerns validity whilst soundness is a useful add-on.

    I dont agree and not sure if agreeing is part of logic but it doesnt change the fact that I didnt change it from apples to pineapples.

    Apples are  an apple with another apple, so my argument is sound.
     In reality the plural form of an apple does not change into a pineapple.

    Because of the inextricable link between logic and fields that I enjoy. In particular, mathematics and philosophy.

    The fact that it helps to eliminate sloppy reasoning is also a bonus.

    Furthermore, fields such as computer science rely heavily on logic. It isn't just playing around with abstractions for fun.

    Is it the last of it's kind or the only one of it's kind? If I remember correctly the phoenix is in an eternal cycle of life and death. It lives, it dies, and is reborn from the ashes. Not sure if it was always unique or there were originally others without having a look at the mythology.
