That's an awesome picture, Teapot! I hadn't seen one like that before. Turns out the person who made it didn't know either, he found this effect accidentally while he was processing the data and thought it's pretty cool, generally there's some nifty science behind these odd images, such is not the case for this one. It's just sheer visual pleasure.

    More pictures.

Click the pictures to see in high-res. The last one is my new wallpaper. grin12

    Here's the effect in motion.

I used Faulkes telescope (when I was doing work experience during sixth form) to captured a couple of images, and had them printed off for me >.< Can't remember where I put them now. Grr. Will need to look through my drawers thoroughly back home.

I wish something interesting would happen in outer space that threatens us, seriously, the world is getting boring now.

I'm not frightened. I would befriend them and trick them into thinking I can teach them about human's weakness as a traitor, then double cross them and destroy them and become the number one hero forever for the whole planet earth.

Anyway, here is a picture of our Mummy, who gave birth to us, and watches over us at night, the Moon

And space seen from Earth looks best in the dark areas. City lights totally bugger the view of the night sky. yes

A huge asteroid that astronomers compare to the size of a city block will reportedly zip by so close to Earth tonight that skygazers should be able to witness it live on the web.

Good one Billy. ....(sigh)  Now they know your plan to be violent. Their whole intention was peaceful.... Now they're questioning if earth is worth bothering with. Humm.... Perhaps if you tried some peaceful friendly thought negotiation can be restarted.

If at first you succeed...try something harder.

An awesome bunch of astronomy pics here.

This is just one of them:

The Hubble Space Telescope produced an exquisitely detailed image of a pair of galaxies called NGC 3314 which appear to be colliding. The two galaxies are in reality tens of millions of light years apart and simply happen to be aligned in our line of sight

    ...

except that the image is a false colour image, and the name of the nebula is actually the cat's eye nebula.

    Quote from: NASA
On August 31, 2012 a long filament of solar material that had been hovering in the sun's atmosphere, the corona, erupted out into space at 4:36 p.m. EDT. The coronal mass ejection, or CME, traveled at over 900 miles per second. The CME did not travel directly toward Earth, but did connect with Earth's magnetic environment, or magnetosphere, causing aurora to appear on the night of Monday, September 3.

The first picture includes an image of Earth to show the size of the CME compared to the size of Earth.

I didn't think the earth was that close to the sun. Perhaps it's one of those things when you get any idea an it just stays. However if you go looking for that picture that showcase how big the sun would look from Venus, from Mercury, from Earth, from Mars ,from Saturn it just doesn't seem like your scale pic is right. Also just if you see how much of the sky the Sun takes up your." You are here>." Pic doesn't seem right.
