    Hi all,

    As owner of the IRC channel (chatroom) affiliated to CEMB, I hereby announce its closure, effective immediately.

    As some of the members there will have noted, I have not been particularly active of late. The administrators of the CEMB forum have never been particularly interested in running a chatroom and I came to the conclusion some time ago that it does not represent a good return on the investment of administrative time and energies required to manage it. Messaging this closure notification was on my todo list before the latest complaints were made, in case any of the mentally impaired see fit to point fingers. This decision was put forward by me and agreed by the CEMB forum administrators a little while ago.

    I hope the members who have used the chan in the past have found it useful. Thank you to Kod, toor, serrated_colon and others who've helped manage it in the past.  Smiley

    ps. Whilst anyone is free to set up ex-Muslim chat rooms, please do not associate any such ventures with CEMB. Explicit permission is required for associated projects bearing the CEMB name.

    I have one registered but I don't really see the point if there is no link to it on here. Besides, I'm sure a lot of us will be grateful for all the time we're going to save Grin

    It's a shame, sure it'l save a lot of time...maybe, I have a feeling people will find other ways to waste that time anyway. Depends who would want to though, if the regulars were to be PM'd the link.

    Thank you thinkfree.  It was a wonderful gesture and donation
    to this forum.  Alot of people got help they needed there, and
    resolved crisis situiations including myself.

    hey man can't you pass the ownership to me or toor. and we keep managing it. I know I haven't been active on the chat but its just because I been traveling a lot recently but by 13th i should be back active again

    Nah, not fond of cliques. I wouldn't mind running one if it's linked to on here, but doesn't look like that's going to happen, so whatcanyado.

    ^^ Is there a way to change the name of it?

    As thinkfree said, CEMB will no longer being linking to a chat, nor having a chat associated with its name, so unless there is a way to change the current channel name, wouldn't it make more sense to just start up a new one?

    Well I'm happy to help start one up, not sure what direction to go though, Zooby you're the comp sci guy, you have any ideas? Or Kod or Toor if you're interested in this independant chat thingy

    Nah I don't know jack about IRC, I don't think its hard to find out though. I'm guessing Toor would know more about running IRC.

    As far as the staff are concerned, chat has become a headache that we no longer want to be associated with.

    Stickying a thread is still using this place, and clearly a recommendation if we are stickying it.

    Oh sure, you can PM people anything you like, within reason (meaning no illegal porn or weird stalking stuff). We have no objection to you doing that, and we don't even see the content of PM's unless one is reported to the staff.

    You can also talk about any site or channel on the forum if you like. We're just not going to consider any formal association with it until we see how it develops.

    ETA: As Berbs noted, this means no sticky.

    I don't see a problem with sigs myself. We generally allow people to link to pretty much anything. Exceptions are usually stuff we wouldn't allow on the forum (pr0n, etc) or things like Stormfront. Common sense should prevail. Smiley
