    Post your favourite ones here...

Stare at the black cross in the center and notice a green dot rotating. Now try concentrating really hard and steady at the cross for a long time. If you do it right, the pink dots will disappear and you'll only see the green dot rotating.

However, nowhere does green exist in this illusion except in your brain!

If you follow the movement of the rotating green dot, the green will disappear.

Stare at the black dot for a minute (the longer the better), and watch the colored 'fluff' disappear!

Look at each word and speak out the colors, not the word.

Part of your brain tries to identify the color while another part of your brain reads the word. This regional brain conflict can produce errors in perception.

The meaning of this image flip flops between a skull and a couple sitting at a table. This 1920's French postcard image titled "L'Amour de Peirrot" was a popular motif throughout the 20th century and inspired such artists as surrealist Salvador Dali. The artist who created the image, ironically, is unknown.

Yeah, Martin Gardner inspired. I used to love Martin Gardner when I was at school. Would read his mathematics and related books in the library in my free periods. As well as Greek and Roman mythology. Also science fiction. Gardner (and I) love MC Escher, who is brilliant at illusionary art.

Would be cooler if we had an explanation as to why we perceive the stuff that way.

The others are cool (I'd seen some of them before) but this one has absolutely no effect on me,. I can read through the list at a normal pace, aloud or mentally, and see the colours just as they are in the image. No perceptual conflicts at all. It just feels like reading any list while looking at any image. Smiley

OK, this is a Salvador Dali painting called ‘Gala Contemplating the Mediterranean Sea’:

What does it look like? Now stand up, go as far back as possible while still being able to see the image on the screen. What does it look like now!?

The prize is the instruction: You need to go further back.

The stereogram works by crossing your eyes until you overlay the left and right images. It should look 3D. That one is particularly lovely!

Yeah I was just kidding about the Dali. I can see the effect.

The stereogram takes too long to do anything. I keep blinking before anything happens. Tongue
